In his debut Energon Universe miniseries, the Commander has made use of Energon-based weaponry in his quest to find more of the rare power source, and this new upgrade should be enough to make the future leader of Cobra a feared combatant on the battlefield.
Cobra Commander #4 picks up where the previous issue left off, as the Commander slips away while his bodyguard Nemesis Enforcer tears the Dreadnok biker gang apart piece by piece.
The Commander discovers that the Dreadnoks have been keeping a scientist hostage. The mysterious scientist explains how he has been able to channel Energon in various ways, harnessing the Transformers’ valuable power source. The Commander uses the scientist’s innovations to supercharge his own Energon-based weaponry, giving him even more of an edge in battle.

The Commander combines the insect-like robots he used in previous issues, which transform around his hand into a repulsor-like gauntlet. Just like Iron Man, the Commander is able to shoot focused energy blasts from the palm of his hand – which proves useful when his would-be bodyguard decides that the Commander is of no further use to Cobra-La, and decides to execute him. Nemesis Enforcer gives the Commander a run for his money, but the future Cobra leader is able to overpower the winged terror, blowing a hole through him with his new Energon gauntlet.
While Cobra Commander has typically been portrayed as a military leader and tactician who would much rather send his subordinates into battle on his behalf, his sheer cunning makes the Commander just as deadly whenever he enters the fray himself.
