Close
Fatalities are the most iconic part of Mortal Kombat's fights, but fixing the problems with the original movie is going to require a lot more than just having cool fatalities. The fights in the first modern Mortal Kombat movie were one of the most disappointing aspects of the film, and for a movie series based on a beloved fighting game franchise, this is a massive problem.
Mortal Kombat 2 has to seriously improve its fight scenes, as this was one of the biggest letdowns of the first film. Featuring more fatalities from the Mortal Kombat video games is always cool, but Mortal Kombat 2's fight scenes need to go beyond this, with the basic hand-to-hand combat being just as interesting as the fatalities.

Why Mortal Kombat’s Fights Were So Disappointing
Close
The fight scenes in the first Mortal Kombat movie should have been one of the most interesting aspects. Instead, however, they were pretty disappointing. This is mostly due to the bland fight choreography being mixed with choppy cinematography and editing, with it leaving viewers confused about what is going on in the fights rather than following along.
With movies like John Wick raising the bar for action choreography, Mortal Kombat 2 has to up its game. The original Mortal Kombat also didn't make enough use of the moves that made each character unique, with the possibilities for cool fights in Mortal Kombat 2 being vast. 2021's Mortal Kombat was fine, but its action scenes could be seriously improved, and Mortal Kombat 2 needs to take the chance to do so.
