The new Henry Cavill movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare has been shut out of the Top 3 in its opening weekend despite overperforming. The new war movie from director Guy Ritchie, which is based on the 2014 nonfiction book Churchill's Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of the Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII, boasts a stacked cast that includes Cavill, Reacher's Alan Ritchson, Crazy Rich Asians' Henry Golding, and 3 Body Problem's Eiza González. It has been generally well-received, earning a 73% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a 94% score from audiences at the time of writing.
Per Deadline, the Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare release is set to close out its first weekend in theaters with a 3-day total of $9 million at the domestic box office. This will place it at No. 4 on the domestic chart for its opening weekend, below the other new wide release Abigail at No. 2 and the holdover hits Civil War at No. 1 and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire at No. 3. However, it has nevertheless exceeded expectations, which originally saw it landing in the mid-single-digit range nearer to Spy x Family Code: White, which made $4.88 million.
