How To Use Movement Glitches To Get Into Stardew's Summit Early
Close
As of version 1.6, if players sneak into Stardew Valley's Summit before the endgame, they'll witness a terrifying cutscene in which they're insulted and attacked by the mysterious Mr. Qi. The Summit is technically the final location players visit as part of Stardew Valley's story - the path to it opens after they achieve Perfection. What normally occurs here is a touching scene: the player character enjoys a quiet moment with their spouse (if they have one), then Grandpa's ghost and Mr. Qi appear to congratulate them on a job well done.
"Perfection" is just Stardew Valley's fancy name for 100% completion. In order to achieve it, players must (among many other goals) sell every crop, catch every fish, and max out their relationships with every person in the village. Progress can be checked via the Perfection Tracker in Qi's Walnut Room on Ginger Island.
However, by using a movement glitch, it's possible to break the boundaries of Stardew Valley's map and waltz into The Summit early. Just don't expect Mr. Qi to be happy about it - the scene that plays out when the player sneaks in takes on a much more sinister tone.
The movement glitch requires the player to stand at the far end of the road south from Robin's Carpenter Shop, and repeatedly swing their scythe. Each time they do so, they'll inch forward until they're ever-so-slightly outside the map's usual borders. From there, it's easy enough to walk around the edges, and load into the usually blocked-off Railroad map. From there, they'll have to repeat the glitch, this time spawning just below the entrance to the summit.

But instead of a beautiful view of treetops and blue sky, the player will be treated to an ominous background, in which glitched versions of various Stardew Valley sprites lazily float by. And there, at the end, Mr. Qi stands waiting. But instead of congratulating the player character, he berates them, calling them a self-centered cheater. The backdrop slowly changes from multicolored blips to pure black, with occasional flashes of red. After he's finished his spiel, Mr. Qi charges at the player, who throws their arms up in terror. They wake up the next morning at the doctor's office.
This cutscene has a threefold effect. For one thing, it gives players who use this boundary-breaking glitch an easy way back to town. They would normally be stuck at The Summit until they quit and reloaded the game, since there's no way to ride the Railroad until Perfection is achieved. It's also a tongue-in-cheek way for developer ConcernedApe to acknowledge this cheat, taunting players who use it to visit places they aren't supposed to be. In addition, this scene brings a lot more depth to an already complicated - although still obscure - character.
Who Is Mr. Qi In Stardew Valley?
Stardew's Most Mysterious Figure, Explained

To call Mr. Qi mysterious would be an understatement. Forget Linus, the Wizard, and Krobus - Mr. Qi is easily the strangest character in Stardew Valley. Most players first learn of his existence the day after they enter Skull Cavern. They'll wake up the next morning to a letter challenging them to reach level 25. Once they do, they'll receive 10,000g in the mail. Apparently, they've passed Mr. Qi's first test, but that'll probably be their last encounter with him for the time being.
Players can only enter Skull Cavern after unlocking the bus to Calico Desert, and finding the Skull Key on floor 120 of the mines.
Later, if the player puts a Battery Pack in the lockbox west of the bus stop, they'll receive another letter from Mr. Qi. This time, he has a series of strange requests, requiring the player to leave a specific items in even more specific places. After placing a Rainbow Shell inside the box by the train station, ten beets inside Mayor Lewis' fridge, and a Solar Essence inside the Sand Dragon's mouth, they'll be instructed to inspect the lumber pile next to their farmhouse. Hidden inside it is a Club Card, which unlocks access to Stardew Valley's hidden casino.

Finally, once the player has collected 100 of Ginger Island's Golden Walnuts, they can meet Mr. Qi himself. He seems to live inside Qi's Walnut Room, where he watches over all the activity in the valley on a variety of computer screens. Here, Mr. Qi also offers Special Orders of his own. Each of these is intensely complicated and strictly time-limited, requiring keen knowledge of Stardew Valley's mechanics. One requires players to find mysterious Qi Beans hidden throughout the world, which can be planted in any season and grown into Qi Fruit, one of Stardew Valley's strangest crops.
And it's further apparent that Mr. Qi knows everything the player's ever done when they meet him in the final Summit cutscene. Strangely, Grandpa even describes him as a friend. So, who is this mysterious, omniscient figure who can talk to the dead, reward good deeds, punish bad ones, and grow plants in his own image? It's safe to say that Mr. Qi is something of a godlike figure in Stardew Valley. His motivations aren't totally clear, but he may be helping enact Grandpa's final wishes by ensuring the player character is ready to succeed him.
But in the end, the whole point of Mr. Qi is the mystery that surrounds him. The player character and Grandpa are the only two people who acknowledge him; no one else seems to be aware of Mr. Qi's existence. Although the latest updates to Stardew Valley reveal a little more about Mr. Qi, he still remains somewhat of a mystery - and that's probably just how he wants it.
