1 MCU Reference Shows How Power Girl and Captain America Are Shockingly Similar
Summary A throwaway MCU reference highlights that Power Girl and Captain America actually share more similarities than meets the eye, both facing displacement in their respective universes.
Both heroes have earned respect and overcome struggles to become top heroes in their companies.
In a hypothetical fight, Power Girl's Kryptonian strength may give her an edge over Captain America.
Warning: Spoilers for Power Girl #7!No one would think to put Power Girl in the same room as Captain America, but they are more alike than some might assume. Considering that both heroes belong to two different companies in the form of DC Comics and Marvel, respectively, it's easy to overlook them as a potential pairing (as far as comparisons, or even a dream fight) is concerned. On paper, these two superheroes could not be more different, but there is certainly more than meets the eye.
The similarities between the alternate Supergirl and Marvel's favorite Boy Scout become apparent in Power Girl #7 by Leah Williams, Marguerite Sauvage, and Becca Carey. While fighting off monsters in her new rebellious pirate costume, Power Girl takes notice of one monster commenting on her "pelkers." For context, the mudrin creatures of this world have nipples that produce milk, called pelk.
Power Girl is quick to point out that she understands that reference, just like Steve Rogers does in one hilarious scene in 2012's The Avengers. This is just one of many connecting threads between two of the most physically and mentally strong characters the comic world has to offer.

Power Girl may not be in the same Avengers-esque leadership role as Captain America, but the future looks bright as she gains newfound exposure in current storylines.
Captain America and Power Girl's journeys are both informed by them being displaced in some way. Cap is a man out of time, while Power Girl was always a woman out of another universe. Captain America finds difficulty connecting with his peers because he originated from a bygone era as time continues to pass him by. Similarly, the Superman Family forgets Power Girl is even a member because she's related by Kryptonian blood rather than the same Earth. The Superman Family have recently steps to rectify that mistake, especially following her new secret identity, but the damage is done.
Both characters are largely defined by the dissonance they feel from being out of their element compared to those around them. Many of their stories follow them as they take steps to transition into making this timeline, or this universe, their new home. In their own ways, both have overcome that displacement by earning respect from those around them and ranking among the best, most beloved heroes in their respective companies. Power Girl may not be in the same Avengers-esque leadership role as Captain America, but the future looks bright as she gains newfound exposure in current storylines.
Who Would Win in a Fight?
Captain America vs. Power Girl?
Power Girl and Captain America share a few characteristics such as strength and bravery, but as fascinating as it is to ponder those similarities, it's just as fun to consider who would win in a battle between them. Obviously, Power Girl has a few more powers than Cap, so for the sake of a fair hypothetical, assume she's taking it easy on him for a fair fist fight. They're evenly matched there, as both are trained in highly skilled combat, but due to Kryptonian strength holding more weight than Super Soldier strength, Power Girl may have an edge over Captain America.
