Below Deck: Dylan Pierre De Villiers Is The Most Problematic Season 11 Cast Member (Can He Redeem Himself?)

Dylan Pierre De Villiers has an attitude problem that makes him one of the most notorious cast members of Below Deck season 11. The adventurous Bravo series is known for featuring incredible drama and unexpected plot twists. The latest season is no different, with problematic cast members like Dylan, Marie "Sunny" Marquis, Ben Willoughby, Barbie Pascual, Cat Baugh, and many others. Below Deck season 11 started with the drama between Barbie and Cat, as Chief Steward Fraser Olender got into the mix. At the same time, Jared Woodin caused more chaos by trying his luck with Barbie.

Ultimately, Captain Kerry Titheradge had to let a few people go to control his crew. He allowed Cat to quit and then fired Jared, who was unprepared for the job because of family-related issues. After numerous exits, Kerry had to find replacements, one of which included Deckhand Dylan. He had to make Ben the Bosun, who later promoted Sunny to the Lead Deckhand position. Little did he know the shake-up would only cause problems. The Captain didn't know Dylan would bad-mouth his senior Sunny by claiming she got the promotion by hooking up with Ben.

Dylan's controversial comments about Sunny have made him extremely notorious. To make matters worse, his demands for wanting to be the Lead Deckhand have also made him look bad. Dylan is problematic because he thinks of himself as better than others. The 23-year-old Cape Town resident has four years of experience in the industry but considers himself superior to his Canadian co-worker, Sunny, just because she's slightly less experienced. He didn't even spend much time on the yacht before making his statement. It was an immature move that proved he had yet to grow up.

Dylan Thought He Should Have Been The Lead Deckhand

Dylan Isn't Mature Enough To Be A Lead Deckhand

Dylan isn't wrong to think that she should be the Lead Deckhand because he has twice as much experience as Sunny. However, it's the way he sparked the rumors and made it happen that makes him problematic.

Instead of talking about this to his seniors, Dylan spread unfair rumors. He alleged Sunny got promoted because of her entanglement with the Bosun. Ben later spoke about this issue with Sunny. He shared that Dylan was telling everybody that "Sunny got Lead Deckhand because she's f**king Ben." Sunny sarcastically replied, "is that what he's saying? Awesome."

Dylan Made Himself Look Bad

Dylan Gets Called Out By Gabriela Barragan

Dylan has made himself look bad on and off the screen. He crossed the line by sparking rumors that Sunny's promotion was because of her entanglement with Ben. He then claimed he was superior and should've gotten the job. Over the weeks, many Below Deck stars have taken offense to Dylan's words. They've slammed him and called him awful. Below Deck Sailing Yacht's Gabriela Barragan wrote on X, "what Dylan said is disgusting," stating that such stereotypical accusations harm females in the yachting industry. Gabriela added, "he has literally perpetuated the stereotypes."

Dylan's social media image has also made him look bad. Over the weeks, he has posted revealing photos of himself on Instagram. His thirst traps prove he's not just immature but also very eager for attention.

It also makes his comments about being the Lead Deckhand sound like he simply wants to be the main character in Below Deck season 11. It would've been far more mature if Dylan had talked to the Captain privately about the promotion issue. He shouldn't have done it by spreading rumors behind Sunny's back.

How Can Dylan Redeem Himself?

Dylan Can Still Rebuild His Public Image

Dylan made a big mistake by causing problems on the yacht early in his career. However, he can still repair his reputation by apologizing to Ben and Sunny. Since he caused the trouble first, he should be the first one to admit his fault.

Dylan should make amends and befriend his crew members. Once Dylan has built a decent relationship with Sunny and Ben, he can finally let bygones be bygones. His apology should be just as loud as the disrespect. Only then could Below Deck fans think of forgiving him for his problematic comments.

Below Deck airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo, then streams the following day on Peacock.
