Dead Island 2 Is Having An Incredible Sale On Steam (But You Have To Act Fast)
Summary Dead Island 2 is on sale on Steam with a 50% discount for one week only.
The game was previously an Epic exclusive on PC, but it's now available on Steam.
Playing the other games before Dead Island 2 isn't necessary to enjoy it.
Now is the perfect time to buy Dead Island 2 on Steam, and the window of opportunity isn't going to last forever. As a long-delayed sequel to a 2011 zombie-slaying hit, Dead Island 2 was released in 2023 after being passed around from developer to developer for years. Despite these troubles, however, the game released to a generally positive critical reception, accurately recapturing the mindless appeal of the original with just enough updates to flesh out systems that could feel unsatisfying in its predecessors.
Dead Island 2's April 22 Steam launch is being celebrated with a 50% discount on the game, which brings the game down to a price of $29.99 in the US market until April 29. The Deluxe Edition, which adds a few cosmetic packs, is on sale for $32.49, and the Gold Edition, which includes an expansion pass along with cosmetics, is down to $39.99. Buying the Dead Island 2 expansion pass is discounted by a slightly more modest 40%.

Dead Island 2's Sale Is An Exciting Steam Launch
The Zombie Action Game Was Previously An Epic Exclusive On PC
Close
Although Dead Island 2 originally released a year ago, it did so as an Epic Games exclusive on PC. The sales provide a way for it to make a splash again on a new storefront, following a model that's been fairly common for games with timed Epic exclusivity. It's worth noting, however, that the Steam copy of Dead Island 2 still requires an Epic Online Services login, which can be linked to Steam for those who don't mind an additional account.
On Xbox consoles, Dead Island 2 is available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate as a perk of the subscription.
This isn't the first time that the Dead Island games have gone on sale in celebration of Dead Island 2's Steam launch. Other titles in the series got steep discounts when the release was announced in February, and Dead Island: Riptide Definitive Edition was free to keep if added to a user's library within a brief window. None of these games are currently on sale alongside Dead Island 2, but there's no need to play them as a preamble to Dead Island 2's essentially separate (and generally perfunctory) story.

It's generally pretty easy to grasp whether Dead Island 2 is worth the purchase — if a lot of slashing up zombies in Los Angeles sounds like an appealing package, then the game delivers exactly what it's promising. At any rate, it's not likely to go on a steeper discount than the one it's currently on for a while yet, so joining in the Steam launch hype can be a tactically sound move. Getting a zombie extravaganza at a steep launch discount might sound more like a Steam experience from ten years ago than today, but the deal is definitely real.
