Fallout 4’s Free Next-Gen Update Fixes One Major Omission
Summary Fallout 4's next-gen update will introduce more than just upgraded visuals and graphics.
The new update will also include a well-known Fallout franchise faction, introducing them into the game with a unique quest.
The new faction has been a mainstay in Fallout and a glaring omission from the game.
After close to a decade since its launch, Fallout 4 is receiving a free next-gen-only update to fix a major story omission. Due to the release of the Fallout Show, it was announced that Fallout 4 would be receiving an update to help scale up its performance to go along with new cosmetics and weapons. Though an update now seems odd, the massive success of the franchise's first live-action show made it a smart decision. Every Fallout game has seen significant increases in sales and player base since the show's release.
Fallout 4 brought players to the northeast for the first time, focusing on eastern Massachusetts, while the Far Harbor DLC explored a small part of Maine. After seeing their son kidnapped in the vault, the player explores the wasteland in an attempt to find the child. All the while getting caught up in Fallout 4's different endings of the Minutemen, Brotherhood of Steel, Railroad, and The Institute factions. However, one prominent Fallout faction was surprisingly absent from the story of this mainline game.

Enclave Remnants
Close
The Enclave, a group of pre-war bigwigs that have been the biggest bad of the franchise, will be looking to enter the Commonwealth. A new quest dubbed "Echoes of the Past" will task players with preventing the Enclave from establishing a base and support in the northeast. It is unknown how long this quest will be and if it will have any long-form impact on the game. Regardless, it is a nice inclusion to a game that felt somewhat disconnected from the rest of the franchise.
Fallout 4 was the first game in the franchise since Fallout 2 to not include the Enclave.
Though the Enclave was absent from the main plot of Fallout 4, they were hinted to have been active at one point. The most obvious sign is the Deathclaws that prowl the Commonwealth. A terrifying monstrosity created by the US military before the war, superior versions were eventually recreated by the Enclave and released into the wasteland to help bolster their goals. The only other sign is remnants of Enclave bases that can be looted for gear.
Fallout 4 will also receive a handful of new gear from the Creation Club to go along with the new questline. Cosmetic-wise, new Enclave skins will be available for armor and weapons. Players will now also have access to Hellfire Power Armor, X-02 Power Armor, Tesla Cannons, and the Heavy Incinerator. This gear is some of the most iconic loot from the franchise, and if nothing else, will be cool to play around with in the new modern style that Fallout 4 started for the franchise.

More Free Content Added To Fallout 4
Redecorating The Commonwealth
Along with the Enclave additions, the Commonwealth will receive a handful of smaller content updates. The first of which is the Makeshift Weapon Pack. This turns random everyday items into weapons crafted to survive the wasteland. Some examples shown off included a baseball launcher, a nail gun turned assault rifle, and a mini-nuke launcher that will fire piggy banks. The creative weapons of destruction will simply be fun new ways to kill and explore all the vaults in Fallout 4.
To fit the historical horror theme Massachusetts is known for, 38 new Halloween decorations will be added to Fallout 4. These additions may sound the most fun for those who enjoy Fallout 4's excellent base building. Settlements can now be decked out to celebrate the holiday or simply add a spooky factor for the residents. More ways to decorate and change the world around the player is never bad and is part of what makes open-world RPGs so popular.
Overall, though this free next-gen update is on the smaller side, it is to be expected for a game that ended any major development support years ago. The fact it is even receiving a new update that adds more than just cosmetics is an amazing feat. Players can jump into Fallout 4 on April 25 to finally battle the Commonwealth's missing enemy, the Enclave.
