Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Seemingly Makes A Popular Same-Sex Ship Canon

This new development adds depth to Frieren: Beyond Jouney's End's story and characters, enhancing the overall narrative of the series.
For years now, one of the most popular ships in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has been the ship of Kanne and Lawine. The way the two girls go back and forth between constant bickering and being genuinely affectionate with one another made a lot of people want to see them as a couple, and the popularity of the anime caused the popularity of their ship to greatly increase in kind.
Kanne and Lawine becoming a couple has always been a popular facet of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End’s fandom, and it seems to have been made officially canon. Not long after the anime ended, Frieren: Beyon Journey’s End’s official X account made a post that all but confirmed Kanne and Lawine as a couple, mostly in how they’re contrasted with more explicit pairings from the series.
Considering how this came from the series’ official X account, there’s little reason not to treat it as fact, and overall, it’s great to see for anyone who’s a fan of the pairing.

How Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Confirms Kanne & Lawine’s Ship
Produced by Madhouse; based on the original manga by Kanehito Yamada
How Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End seemingly makes Kanne and Lawine’s ship canon is by contrasting it with other ships in the series. The series’ official X account posted images of scenes of someone getting down on one knee like they were proposing, with the scenes involving the pairings of Himmel and Frieren, Stark and Fern, and Kanne and Lawine.
The first two pairings have been established as official couples in every aspect but officially saying it in the series, and as such, Kanne and Lawine being contrasted with official couples in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End more or less confirms their relationship as romantic.

Kanne and Lawine being an official couple in Frieren is great to see, and there are a lot of reasons as to why. For starters, while LGBTQ+ content has been becoming more prevalent in anime, it still isn’t that common, especially not in stories that aren’t explicitly marketed as such. Now, however, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, one of the biggest anime of recent years, has a canon same-sex relationship, so not only will that draw a lot of attention, but it could go a long way toward further normalizing the idea of these pairings becoming canon in non-BL and yuri anime.

Beyond that, Kanne and Lawine being a couple is great to see because of how much it fleshes out their story. While the series has worked fine without focusing on romance, it’s still something that can flesh out its world and make the characters seem more layered, so Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End confirming Kanne and Lawine as a couple serves to flesh out both their characters and the overall narrative. Overall, Kanne and Lawine’s official relationship is nothing but good for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and with any luck, they’ll soon return to the series to help develop things even further.
