Histera Shows Off Time Traveling Warfare In New Release Trailer [EXCLUSIVE]

Summary Histera is an upcoming arena shooter with time-travel elements where a Glitch mechanic changes the map during matches.

The game features three time periods with unique maps and weapons like poison dart guns, Karabiner rifles, and futuristic Nova III.

Players will need to adapt to sudden changes in the map caused by the Glitch as they utilize various weapons and power-ups for combat.

Screen Rant has received an exclusive first look at a new trailer for upcoming arena shooter Histera that reveals its release date. The new FPS from developer StickyLock will take players through different eras as they battle it out in teams of eight. Both weapons and locales will draw from various time periods, and a mechanic called the Glitch that changes the arena over the course of a round will ensure no two matches are the same.

The release date trailer showcases the way Histera uses eras of time in its map and weapons, and gives a better idea of what each fight will look like. Unlike most games that utilize time travel, players will have no control over when things shift, instead being at the mercy of the Glitch. There are three time periods in the title that each have their own maps: the prehistoric Pliocene Plateau, World War II-era Novgorod, and the futuristic Montorro City.

As the match goes on, the Glitch will make entire sections of the map warp in and out, forcing players to adapt at a moment's notice. The game will officially enter early access on May 16, and can be wishlisted ahead of release on Steam.

Histera's Unique Weapon Selection

All Eras Have Their Own Offense

Close

While not all weapons have been revealed yet for Histera, there's been some insight given on the game's Steam page into some of what the title has to offer. Prehistoric weapons include a poison dart gun, hunting bow, and an enemy-slowing slingshot, WWII options feature historically-inspired choices like a Karabiner rifle and BV-40 gun, and the futuristic selection has creative inventions like the Nova III - which fires three simultaneous shots - and the Cyclone SMG, which utilizes electric shocks. Players will be able to mix and match these choices to create a unique arsenal that fits their play style.

Pick-Ups & Glitches Galore Make Unique Matches

Alongside these special weapons, players will also have a myriad of pick-ups at their disposal to help turn the tides of a match. Some are fairly typical for the genre, like increased damage or health regeneration, but others, like the ability to convert damage dealt into health and unlimited ammo, stand out as more unique ways to sway combat. However, even with the best weapons and buffs, players will still be at the mercy of the Glitch, which will randomly warp areas of the map between periods.

At its core, this isn't a game about historical accuracy - it's about drawing inspiration from the past, present, and future to create something wholly unique. The Glitch mechanic will ensure players need to learn the ins and outs of each map in order to survive and adapt at a moment's notice, adding another interesting layer of strategy alongside the game's historical weapon sets. Players can time travel for themselves later next month when Histera launches in early access.
