Scorsese's track record with Oscars suggests that the Sinatra biopic has a strong chance of awards success.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence are set to star alongside each other once again, giving them the perfect opportunity to redeem their previous disappointment. In 2021, DiCaprio and Lawrence teamed up for Netflix's Don't Look Up, but the movie didn't quite live up to its big expectations. Despite Don't Look Up's star-studded cast, it received mixed reviews, earning just a 55% score on Rotten Tomatoes. While the audience response was on the more positive side for Netflix's big investment, it was still nowhere near the success Lawrence or DiCaprio anticipated, but they now have the chance to make amends.
After the critically acclaimed Killers of the Flower Moon, DiCaprio will once again work with Martin Scorsese on a Frank Sinatra biopic. The two have had plenty of hits in the past and adding Lawrence into the mix makes the film even more promising. While there is no official release date as of yet, Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio's Frank Sinatra movie being spearheaded by Scorsese is the perfect chance at redemption. The trio are all Oscar winners, and Scorsese's Frank Sinatra film seems to already have the right formula to get the best out of its leading actors.

Sinatra's Tone Looks To Be A Better Fit For Leonardo DiCaprio & Jennifer Lawrence Than Don't Look Up

The Frank Sinatra movie provides an excellent chance to better utilize DiCaprio and Lawrence's skills than Don't Look Up through to its dramatic tone. Don't Look Up's comedic approach is likely why the film failed to get the best out of its big stars. DiCaprio and Lawrence were joined by other huge names like Timothée Chalamet, Cate Blanchett, and Meryl Streep, all of who perform better in dramas. This led to Don't Look Up's Best Picture nomination being divisive as the movie failed to make a unanimous impression, while other popular films were snubbed.
In contrast, the Frank Sinatra biopic will likely be much more drama-orientated, which will be a far better fit for the lead actors. Jennifer Lawrence's No Hard Feelings cemented her comedy abilities, and she even won an Oscar for her romantic comedy, Silver Linings Playbook. However, drama movies such as The Hunger Games were instrumental in Lawrence becoming a huge star. DiCaprio has also made a career out of drama-focused movies, winning his Oscar for The Revenant, which proves the duo fit this genre. With Scorsese's biopic leaning into their strengths, Sinatra already has more potential than their previous outing.

Martin Scorcese's Track Record Suggests Sinatra Could Be A Hit At The Oscars
Although it was nominated for Best Picture, Don't Look Up always looked like an outside shot at best, but the Sinatra movie has legitimate Oscar potential. Alongside the talented cast, Don't Look Up had Adam McKay in the director's seat, who has a strong track record at the Academy Awards. Vice had several nominations, and The Big Short won for Best Writing, meaning there was a lot of pressure on Don't Look Up. It did manage four total nominations, but failing to secure a single Oscar was underwhelming. Thankfully for DiCaprio and Lawrence, the Sinatra biopic has larger Oscar prospects.
Scorsese's movies have accumulated 20 Oscars, meaning Sinatra has a healthy chance of winning an award. With Oppenheimer dominating the 2024 Oscars, it's clear biopics have plenty of potential, and with a huge director like Scorsese in charge, the sky is the limit for Sinatra. Oppenheimer also produced Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor performances, indicating that DiCaprio and Lawrence have a great chance at securing an individual award. Working alongside Scorsese on this kind of project gives DiCaprio and Lawrence the maximum potential to find Oscar success, and would be a great way to redeem Don't Look Up's shortcomings.
