The Autobots Face A Major Defeat at the Hands of Unexpected Transformers Villain

Summary The advanced solicitation for Transformers #10 doesn't give away much, though it does suggest that another character will make their unexpected entry into the Earth-front of the Cybertronian War at the worst possible time, as the Autobots are reeling from yet another defeat.

The Energon Universe Transformers continuity has so far featured a bitter power struggle for control of the Decepticons in Megatron's absence, though that has not stopped them from dealing some serious blows to their Autobot enemies.

Last seen on Cybertron, the appearance of Shockwave on Earth would potentially have dramatic repercussions for the current state of the Autobot/Decepticon conflict.

WARNING! Potential spoilers ahead for Transformers #10The Autobots are currently riding high in Skybound’s Transformers series, but it looks like the good times won’t last forever in the Energon Universe. The solicitations for this summer’s Transformers #10 promise a shocking defeat for Optimus Prime and co., with a major Decepticon waiting in the wings to enact his master plan.

Scheduled to be released this July, Transformers #10 will continue the story of the Autobots and Decepticons stranded on Earth. The Autobots recently retook the Ark from the Decepticons, as the series first arc concluded, but the solicits for issue #10 hint that they will soon face a major defeat:

Transformers #10 Release Date: July 10, 2024 Writer: Daniel Warren Johnson Artist: Jorge Corona Colorist: Mike Spicer Letterer: Rus Wooton Shockwave’s plan revealed! Can the Autobots recover from their latest loss in time to save everyone?

The appearance of Shockwave will have major consequences for the Robots in Disguise, spelling trouble for Optimus Prime and his Autobots. Shockwave previously made his Energon Universe debut in the pages of Void Rivals, where readers learned he had been left in charge of a Decepticon-controlled Cybertron by Megatron himself.

Even though the Autobots have a victory on their hands, it sounds like they won’t have very long to celebrate now that the Decepticons are under new leadership.

The Decepticons Power Struggles Continue In Transformers #10

Close

The Decepticons on Earth have gone through quite a fair number of changes in the short time since being reawakened in Transformers #1. With Megatron nowhere to be found, Starscream declared himself the Decepticons’ new leader. However, despite an aggressive approach, the loss of the Arc led the other Decepticons to question Starscream’s leadership. Soundwave challenged him for the right to lead, and summarily gave Starscream a proper thrashing. Taking a much more cautious and logical approach to their war against the Autobots, Soundwave still displays an undeniably ruthless approach.

Even though the Autobots have a victory on their hands, it sounds like they won’t have very long to celebrate now that the Decepticons are under new leadership. The recently-released Transformers #7 also gave readers a glance of the war playing out on Cybertron, as Elita-1 led a small band of Autobot rebels to storm a Decepticon compound to free the captured remains of Ultra Magnus. It’s easy to assume that Elita will find some way to resurrect Ultra Magnus, which could be enough to give Shockwave a headache dealing with a formidable combatant joining the Autobot revolution.

Although Shockwave’s plan will likely have ramifications running throughout the entire Energon Universe, the heroes of Skybound’s shared continuity still have Megatron waiting in the wings.

Shockwave Plays His Hand, But Megatron Is Still A Wildcard

A large part of what makes the solicits for Transformers #10 so intriguing stems from more than just the question of what Shockwave's plan is. It also comes from speculation about how Shockwave will factor into the story – as his arrival on Earth would drastically change the dynamic of the Autobot/Decepticon conflict in the Energon Universe, which is still very much in the process of establishing its status quo. Alternatively, it is possible there will be no status quo, and that the propulsive action of the series will constantly propel the narrative forward.

Although Shockwave’s plan will likely have ramifications running throughout the entire Energon Universe, the heroes of Skybound’s shared continuity still have Megatron waiting in the wings. Even though the Decepticon true leader is currently the prisoner of Cobra Commander, fans can expect that Megatron will break free sooner rather than later. Optimus and the Autobots will really have a fight on their hands when that comes to pass, whether the Decepticons are led by Soundwave, Shockwave or Megatron. However events play out, fans will have to keep reading Transformers to see what happens next in the Energon Universe.
