Argylle Features A Hidden Reunion For Henry Cavill's 4-Year-Old Movie Franchise On Netflix

Summary Henry Cavill stars in Argylle, which features a subtle reunion with a former co-star from Enola Holmes.

Argylle received negative reviews and bombed at the box office with only $96 million in earnings.

The film has a 33% Rotten Tomatoes score, breaking Cavill and Louis Partridge's streak of "Fresh" projects together.

Henry Cavill stars as the titular character in Argylle, which features an easy-to-miss reunion between Cavill and one of the actor's co-stars from a popular Netflix movie franchise. The 2024 spy action comedy film, directed by Matthew Vaughn and written by Jason Fuchs, revolves around a reclusive spy novelist — Elly Conway, played by Bryce Dallas Howard — who finds herself tangled up with spies and criminals after her latest book somehow details real-life events. The movie features numerous shocking moments (including a twist during Argylle's post-credits scene) as Elly tries to evade the Division, an evil organization.

Enola Holmes and Enola Holmes 2 are available to stream on Netflix, and Argylle is streaming on Apple TV+.

Sadly, Argylle received mostly negative reviews, with some critics claiming that its plot was too convoluted and silly and that its lengthy runtime was unnecessary. The spy action comedy also bombed at the box office, as it only grossed $96 million against a $200 million budget. Nevertheless, Argylle's streaming debut on Apple TV+ seems to be making up for its previous failures, and perhaps the draw of a reunion between Cavill and one of his former co-stars will draw more people in and entice them to watch the film.

Argylle's Henry Cavill & Louis Partridge Are Both In Netflix's Enola Holmes Movies

Henry Cavill Starred As Sherlock Holmes & Louis Patridge Played Tewkesbury

Close

Louis Partridge stars as the younger version of Henry Cavill's eponymous spy in Argylle, but the two have worked together before. Cavill played Sherlock Holmes in the 2020 Netflix mystery film Enola Holmes and its sequel two years later, while Partridge portrayed Lord Tewkesbury in both movies. Whereas Cavill's character is the brother of Millie Bobby Brown's Enola Holmes in the franchise, Partridge's Tewkesbury is Enola's love interest. Unfortunately, the two actors don't share much (if any) screen time in any of their three films together, but the connection between Enola Holmes and Argylle is interesting, to say the least.

Partridge is confirmed to be reprising his role in the cast of the prequel Argylle series, and there's always a possibility of Cavill popping up in the upcoming show.

Argylle's Rotten Tomatoes Score Ruins Henry Cavill & Louis Partridge's Movie Streak

Argylle Has A 33% Tomatometer Score

Close

Henry Cavill's Argylle was a Rotten Tomatoes disaster, as the movie only scored 33 percent on the Tomatometer. The score itself is disappointing, but the fact that it's Cavill and Louis Partridge's first "Rotten" project together makes it even worse. Both Enola Holmes movies were critically acclaimed and received a Tomatometer score above 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, so the 2024 spy action comedy ruins Cavill and Partridge's "Fresh" streak.

Movie Release Date Tomatometer Audience Score Enola Holmes September 23, 2020 91% 71% Enola Holmes 2 November 4, 2022 93% 79% Argylle February 2, 2024 33% 72%

Perhaps Cavill and Partridge will reunite once more for a future project and redeem their critical and commercial failure. Partridge is confirmed to be reprising his role in the cast of the prequel Argylle series, and there's always a possibility of Cavill popping up in the upcoming show. Hopefully, the prequel Argylle series will fare much better with critics and audiences than the movie.
