Batman's Strangest Villain Completely Reinvents His Cowl in New Cover
Summary The Ten-Eyed Man, with reality-warping powers, poses a major threat to Batman.
Previously a gimmick villain, the Ten-Eyed Man now has dangerous superpowers.
The reasons behind the Ten-Eyed Man's motivations in Gotham City remain unclear.
It's no secret that Gotham City is home to some truly deranged and bizarre individuals, and Batman has gone up against all of them. Now, one of Batman's strangest and most powerful villains is going to be confronting Batman in a major way, as it seems the Ten-Eyed Man has defeated Batman in some horrifying new cover art.
In the upcoming Detective Comics #1087, Gotham City is in a worse state than ever before. The Orgham family control Gotham with an iron grip, Joker's daughter roams the streets, and Mr. Freeze has seemingly created an apocalyptic device beneath the streets of Gotham. With all of this in mind, it seems that Batman will also have to deal with the Ten-Eyed Man, as he appears in a terrifying and strange new variant cover by Sebastian Fiumara in which his hand pushes through Batman's iconic cowl.
The Ten-Eyed Man is by far one of Batman's strangest villains, but after a major re-invention, he's also become one of Batman's strongest. It's unclear what part the Ten-Eyed Man will play in Gotham's fate, but this unpredictable and powerful foe could be a major threat to Batman.

Fiumara's Variant Cover for Detective Comics #1087 Sends a Shiver Down the Spine
DETECTIVE COMICS #1087 (2024) Release Date: July 24th, 2024 Writers: Ram V Artists: Javier Fernandez Cover Artist: Evan Cagle Variant Covers: Kelley Jones, Guillem March, Sebastian Fiumara Gotham City is besieged on all sides. The Orghams’ iron fist holds the city in a death grip. The Joker’s Daughter terrorizes the streets, while Mr. Freeze’s most apocalyptic creation yet menaces the city from below. Does the Dark Knight stand a chance?
The Ten-Eyed Man started out as Philip Reardon, a security guard at a local warehouse. During a robbery, Reardon tried to defeat the criminals, but was disarmed and knocked out. When he came-to, he saw Batman, who had arrived to apprehend the criminals. Shortly after, an explosion occurred, and Reardon lost his vision. He blamed Batman, and after a bizarre surgery, Philips' eyes were re-routed through his fingertips, allowing him to see anything he pointed at. Philip Reardon began as nothing more than a bizarre gimmick villain who only showed up a few times.
After being unused for years, the Ten-Eyed Man was reintroduced as one of Batman's most powerful villains. It's unclear exactly how this change occurred, but the Ten-Eyed Man now has reality warping powers and claims that each eye on his fingers has a different power. While this seems like just unhinged babble, he's actually proved it several times. The Ten-Eyed Man can remove someone's jaw without breaking their skin, see through walls, and disappear in front of people. The Ten-Eyed Man has been watching Gotham for a while now, and it seems he might finally be entering another confrontation with Batman.

Panel from Arkham City: The Order of the World by Dan Watters, Dani, Dave Stewart, and Aditya Bidikar
Batman hasn't seen the Ten-Eyed Man since his days as a one-note gimmick villain. That the Ten-Eyed Man now has legitimate and dangerous superpowers makes him a formidable threat to Batman, but the question is whether the Ten-Eyed Man is going to go after Batman at all. Since Ten-Eyed Man has returned to Gotham City, his motivations and goals have been intentionally difficult to understand, but judging from this variant cover, it's possible Batman might be in for a surprisingly difficult fight.
