X-Men Just Killed Off the Ultimate Omega Mutant (Who Fans Hoped Would Stay Forever)

Summary Xavier stoops to new lows, murdering fan-favorite hero Rasputin IV in cold blood.

Rasputin IV was a key player in the X-Men's battle against Orchis forces.

Despite Xavier's monstrous actions, Rasputin may be resurrected in the White Hot Room.

Warning: contains spoilers for Rise of the Power of X #4

Professor Xavier will save his X-Men at any cost... even if it means murdering a fan-favorite mutant hero in cold blood. Xavier has been on a desperate descent into martyrdom since Orchis' assault on the Hellfire Gala weeks ago, and in a preview for Rise of the Powers of X #4 the former mutant leader ruthlessly kills the reality-hopping Rasputin IV, one more betrayal in a long line of "sacrifices."

Rasputin IV was first introduced as a mutant chimera - created by Mister Sinister - in Powers of X, and returned to X-Men comics during the Sins of Sinister event, which ended with the Omega-level mutant traveling to Earth-616.

A preview for Rise of the Powers of X #4, from writer Kieron Gillen with artists R. B. Silva and David Curiel, depicts a shocking scene, perfectly encapsulating how far Xavier has fallen, with the disgraced mentor shooting Rasputin IV to death after murdering Rachel Summers the moment before.

Xavier Brutally Murders Rasputin IV In Cold Blood

No matter Xavier's plan, betrayal and murder have soiled his legacy forever

Rasputin IV has been an integral part of the X-Men's war against Orchis, working with the X-Men leaders Synch and Talon in New York City to combat the kidnapping and murder of innocent mutants by Orchis forces. The super-warrior is a chimera of several different mutants, giving her immense power like telepathy, intangibility, and metal skin, while also weilding a Soulsword. Rasputin IV hates Sinister an intense amount, for betraying mutantkind and creating her as a slave to use as his weapon, and she was furious when she discovered that Xavier was working with Sinister.

Xavier is attempting to resurrect Jean Grey and the Phoenix Force, and part of his plan was to murder Rachel Summers - Jean Grey's daughter and former host of the Phoenix - so that she would come back to life in the White Hot Room. After witnessing Xavier kill Rachel, Rasputin is horrified and attempts to stop him, but Charles frees the despicable Mother Righteous to stop Rasputin in her tracks. Showing a small amount of mercy, Xavier turns off Rasputin's pain receptors before shooting her countless times, making sure the X-Men hero was dead even with all her various abilities.

Rasputin May Be Resurrected In The White Hot Room

The Five's powers seem to be working in the Nexus of All-Realities

While there is an assumption that Rasputin IV will be revived by The Five in the White Hot Room, the fact that Xavier was even capable of so monstrously murdering Rachel and Rasputin is all the proof needed to see that Xavier's time is over. Charles was once a respected and beloved leader of the X-Men, but he will most likely never lead the mutants again. Teasers for the X-Men's new From the Ashes era hint at a mysterious "Prisoner X," and may fans believe this high-priority prisoner will be Charles, after his many sins committed against mutantkind and humanity.

Hopefully the X-Men hero Rasputin IV, a fan-favorite Omega-level mutant warrior, will be resurrected in the White Hot Room, before the final assault against Orchis, but regardless of her fate the way in which Xavier murdered her cements his downfall.
