Fallout Season 2 Lucy Hopes Detailed By Ella Purnell

Fallout star Ella Purnell shares her hopes for Lucy in season 2 of the hit Prime Video adaptation. Hailing from showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wanger, the apocalyptic dark comedy series serves as an adaptation of the hit video game franchise of the same name. After Fallout season 1 earned rave reviews from critics and audiences, Prime Video confirmed that the series will be returning for season 2 at some point in the future.

In a recent interview with GQ, Purnell reveals what she hopes is next for Lucy in Fallout season 2. According to the actor, she's keen to see some evolution from her protagonist, but she also stresses how important it is for Lucy to retain some key characterizations from season 1. I just want her to continue to be funny, because that’s really fun to do. I want her to continue to have really cool stunt sequences, because that’s really fun to do. [Laughs.] I’d like to see her become her own person. I’d like to see her form some opinions that feel truly and wholly hers, and not a product of her upbringing, or a product of Vault-Tec. I think part of her being a good person is just truly her, and I think that is just who she is. I don’t know if that’s going to stay or going to go, I’d be down to play it either way. But I’d also like to see her go, like, ‘No, I don’t like this food,’ or ‘No, I don’t think what you…’ A little tiny rebellion, maybe.

After becoming acquainted with the state of the post-apocalyptic world after emerging from her vault, Lucy, over the course of the season, becomes more capable and less naive. Although she evolves, she remains, perhaps until the finale, largely the same at her core. By nature, she's a kindhearted and trustworthy person, but her sheltered existence also contributed to this.

In addition to her starring role in Fallout, Purnell has previously appeared in Yellowjackets and Netflix's Army of the Dead.

The events of the Fallout season 1 finale, however, see her head out into the Wasteland a changed person. The finale hits Lucy with several big revelations at once, including the discovery that her father, Hank (Kyle MacLachlan) is responsible for the bombing of Shady Sands and her mother being turned into a ghoul. What's left of her mother also remains "alive," and in an advanced – and disturbing – state of ghoulification. Season 1 ends with Lucy cutting ties with her father and shooting her mother in the head before heading off into the Wasteland with The Ghoul (Walton Goggins).

It's unclear exactly what awaits Lucy in Fallout season 2, but audiences could be in for a more self-assured and less trusting version of the character. Since she chose to travel with the Ghoul, after all, she may end up becoming more like him in more ways than one. As Purnell states, though, it's also important that Lucy retains some of the characteristics that made audiences want to follow her journey in the first place.
