Ncuti Gatwa and Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies are optimistic about its future beyond seasons 14 and 15 ahead of the Fifteenth Doctor's first full-season debut. Having made his first appearance in 2023's 60th anniversary special "The Giggle," Gatwa joined Millie Gibson's new companion Ruby Sunday in 2023's seasonal special "The Church on Ruby Road," giving audiences their first taste of the new era. Doctor Who will return in May with a full eight-episode season and will be followed by a seasonal special in late 2024.
As Gatwa's new Doctor Who adventures prepare to materialize, Gatwa and Davies spoke with Variety about what the show's future holds. Despite only receiving a two-season order, the showrunner stated that he's "already making plans" for more adventures.
