Henry Cavill grew up as one of five boys, and he often discusses his fondness for his childhood and how growing up in a packed house could get rough, but it is not something he would ever change. Cavill said on The Graham Norton Show about growing up,

"...We were living on the edge of survival most of the time... My dad came home from work... and he realized that the wallpaper had changed and this pissed him off... He was like, 'Hold on a second, why are you changing the wallpaper without any kind of discussion about it?' And so he went to my mum and said, 'Why did we change the wallpaper?' And she quite simply just said, 'It's easier to clean the blood off this wallpaper'... It was a lot of rough and tumble, never any punching in the face. That was the rule, no face punches."

Five brothers is a lot of energy to have in one house and, as many brothers do, the Cavills enjoyed roughhousing together, so much so that their mother had to take some drastic precautionary measures when it came to keeping the place clean. Cavill has a lot of appreciation for his mother, in particular saying about her on Live with Kelly and Ryan,

"She is extraordinary, yes. Extraordinary she's put up with a lot... She's amazing, she's amazing. She raised us strong and tough and with lots of love too."

Henry is the fourth Cavill brother, so there are three older and one younger. None of the other brothers have pursued acting, and each seems content living their lives privately, which of course makes identifying them a more difficult task than it is for Henry. His oldest brother is Piers, and according to LinkedIn, he was an officer in the British army for 10 years before joining the private sector in wealth management and working in technology in the online lottery and gambling industry.
