May 1 Will Be A Bad Day For Joker 2's Marketing Campaign (& I Just Don't Understand It)
Summary Joker is leaving Netflix on April 30, causing marketing campaign issues for the upcoming sequel.
US audiences can still stream Joker on Max after it leaves Netflix, unlike UK residents.
UK residents can only rent or buy Joker, making it inaccessible for streaming in the country.
The DC Universe is currently preparing for the release of Joker: Folie à Deux, but May 1, 2024, will be a bad day for its marketing campaign thanks to one very questionable decision. The DC Universe continues expanding, as do other parallel branches, such as the universe where Todd Phillips’ Joker lives. In 2019, Phillips brought a new, different take on the Clown Prince of Crime in Joker, which, instead of being a superhero movie, was a psychological thriller following the origin of the man that would become the anarchic iconic known as “Joker”.
Joker introduced the audience to Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a clown and aspiring stand-up comedian with a neurological disorder that causes him to have random, uncontrollable laughing fits. When the system fails him and others who depend on medication, and he confronts the wealthy, Arthur descends into mental illness and becomes the trigger and image of a violent revolution against the wealthy in Gotham City. Now, a sequel, titled Joker: Folie à Deux is coming in October 2024, but May 1 is about to be a bump on its road due to a strange decision.

Joker Is Leaving The Biggest Streaming Platform, 6 Months Before The Sequel
Joker Can Still Be Found In Another Big Streaming Platform

Netflix adds a variety of content to its catalogs every month but also removes many titles, and unfortunately, among those leaving in April is Joker.
Those looking to revisit or watch Joker for the first time in preparation for Joker: Folie à Deux won’t be able to do so as Joker is leaving Netflix on April 30, 2024, unless they have a Max subscription. When HBO Max was launched, a big hook for the audience was that it had the complete library of Warner’s DC movies, and those releasing in theaters after the platform’s launch would have a place in it when the time arrived.
However, some of HBO Max’s biggest titles were removed shortly after the platform launched and were sent to Netflix, but some DC movies were given extended runs on HBO Max thanks to popular demand. Like any other streaming platform, Netflix adds a variety of content to its catalogs every month but also removes many titles, and unfortunately, among those leaving in April is Joker.
Given that Joker: Folie à Deux is only six months away, it’s a strange decision to remove Joker from the biggest streaming platform, but luckily, it’s still available to stream on Max, and unless it’s also removed before October, fans of Phillips’ Joker can revisit it before Joker: Folie à Deux arrives.
Netflix has three subscription plans: standard with ads for $6.99 a month, standard for $15.49 a month, and premium for $22.99 a month. Max has three subscription plans: ad-lite for $10 a month, ad-free for $16 a month, and ultimate for $20 a month.

Joker Also Isn't Available To Stream Anywhere In The UK
UK Residents Won’t Be Able To Stream Joker For Now
Joker isn’t available to stream anywhere in the UK, and it’s only available to rent and buy.
Unfortunately, Joker’s streaming availability is not the same worldwide. While US residents will be able to stream Joker on Max after it leaves Netflix on April 30, 2024, UK residents won’t be able to enjoy it anywhere. Joker isn’t available to stream anywhere in the UK, and it’s only available to rent and buy. It’s possible that, once Joker: Folie à Deux’s release date gets closer, Joker will be made available in the UK (and other countries with the same dilemma), which would most likely be on Max as it’s a Warner Bros. title.
Platform Rent Buy Apple TV £3.49 £4.99 Amazon £3.49 £4.99 Google Play £3.49 £4.49 Sky Store £3.49 £4.99 Microsoft £3.49 £7.99 YouTube £3.49 £4.49 Rokuten £3.49 £7.99
Although Joker: Folie à Deux is still six months away, its marketing campaign has already begun with the release of its first trailer, and though the campaign won’t gain full force until the release date is much closer, it’s quite questionable that Joker was removed from Netflix, and even more that it’s not available to stream anywhere in the UK. UK residents might still get a chance to rewatch Joker before Joker: Folie à Deux comes out, while US residents will have to subscribe to Max to do so.
