Shazam vs Superman: New Fight Settles Who's Actually Stronger
Summary The Last Son poses a major threat to Shazam and Mary Marvel, potentially overpowering them in their battle.
The fact that Waller's creation has already taken out Superman and his allies does not bode well for Billy and his family.
Even without their powers, Shazam and Mary Marvel may find an unlikely ally in Black Adam to combat the formidable Last Son.
Even Superman has acknowledged that Shazam is his one equal among all the heroes in the Justice League. In fact, Billy Batson has even defeated the Man of Steel on several occasions. However, Shazam vs. Superman is about to be taken to a whole new level with the introduction of Amanda Waller's Last Son, and even with Mary Marvel by his side, things aren’t looking favorable for the Captain.
The fact that the Last Son has already taken out Superman and his entire Family does not bode well for Billy and the rest of the Shazam clan.
July is the month for Absolute Power mayhem, as DC pits the Trinity of Evil against its greatest heroes in a battle that will decide the fate of all metahumans in the DCU. Multiple titles will contribute to this blockbuster event, including Leah Williams and Caitlin Yarsky’s Absolute Power: Task Force VII #1, which will hit comic book shelves on July 10, 2024.
ABSOLUTE POWER: TASK FORCE VII #1 (2024) Release Date: July, 10, 2024 Writers: Leah Williams Artists: Caitlin Yarsky Cover Artist: Pete Woods Variant Covers: Dave Rapoza, Brad Walker, John Timms, and Dan Mora SUPER NO MORE! With the assault on Metropolis’s heroes complete, Amanda Waller’s latest living weapon, the Last Son, sets his sights on the other most powerful supers in the DCU…the Marvel Family! Will their combined powers be enough to survive this terrifying threat? In this biweekly series we’ll see the ABSOLUTE POWER event through the eyes of evil—as told from the point of view of the TRINITY OF EVIL!
This comic will introduce the Last Son, Waller’s Superman Amazo, and see this living weapon set loose on the Shazam Family. However, even with the combined might of Billy and his siblings, this might not be a battle they can win.
Shazam and Mary Marvel Face-Off Against Amanda Waller’s Superman Amazo, the Last Son
The official press release for Absolute Power: Task Force VII #1 states that the Last Son has “eliminated the threat of Superman and all his allies in Metropolis” and now has its sights set on Shazam, Mary Marvel, and the rest of their family. If asked which family would win in a battle against each other, the Shazamily or the Superman Family, most fans would likely say the Supers. Hence, the fact that the Last Son has already taken out Superman and his entire Family does not bode well for Billy and the rest of the Shazam clan.
This bleak outlook is further substantiated by the issue’s cover and synopsis. The main cover art for Absolute Power: Task Force VII #1 depicts Shazam and Mary Marvel on foot, fleeing from what appears to be a squadron of Waller’s A.R.G.U.S. troops and the Last Son. Despite being in their adult forms, the siblings look particularly stressed as they run, clasping each other’s hands. Additionally, the synopsis reads, “Super no more.” Hence, both the cover and synopsis suggest that Mary and Billy have lost their powers, significantly diminishing their odds of winning against the Last Son.
Black Adam May Be Shazam and Mary Marvel’s Best and Last Hope for Surviving the Last Son
However, even though Mary and Billy seem to be powerless, there is still hope that they might be able to defeat the Last Son with the help of an unlikely ally – Black Adam. Despite there being no mention of Adam in the synopsis, Brad Walker’s variant cover for the issue depicts Mary Marvel, Shazam, and Black Adam flying with purpose beside each other. Therefore, it's possible that Black Adam will be making an appearance and fighting alongside the siblings against the Last Son, resulting in the ultimate next-level Shazam vs. Superman battle.
