According to Oricon’s official sales reports, Gushing Over Magical Girls sold over 8000 Blu-ray and DVDs in its first week, far exceeding more mainstream titles like Chained Soldier and even Solo Leveling.

While it’s not as important as it once was with the advent of streaming, Blu-ray and DVD sales are still a big metric in measuring an anime’s success. The biggest hits of the season will almost always, in turn, have large sales figures, especially in their first few weeks, and selling enough units makes it all the more likely that a series will get picked up for another season.
