10 Most Powerful Asgardians In The MCU, Ranked
Summary Asgardians, despite their dwindling numbers, remain among the most powerful beings in the MCU.
Certain members of the Asgardian royal family possess superpowers beyond average citizens.
Characters like Lady Sif and Hogun have showcased incredible resilience and skills that rival gods.
Though they have undergone hardships that have caused their numbers to dwindle, Asgardians still rank among the most powerful people within the MCU. Asgard has featured heavily in Thor's MCU journey as he wrestled with the responsibilities of leadership before ultimately abdicating from his throne and leaving the Earth-based nation of New Asgard in the care of King Valkyrie. Throughout these appearances, Asgardians have consistently demonstrated an almost superhuman level of resilience, helping to justify their status as gods to a certain group of humans.
Though Asgardian physiology places them leagues ahead of superpower-devoid humans, a few notable examples of Asgardians have demonstrated even greater strength. Notably, the Asgardian royal family seems to have the privilege of certain superpowers that escape the average Asgardian citizen. Yet they are not the only subset of Asgardian society that boasts incredible powers, while the most powerful of all of them isn't biologically Asgardian at all.

10 Lady Sif Has Shown Incredible Resilience
Last Appeared In Thor: Love And Thunder (2022)
Close
As the only surviving member of Thor's closest Asgardian companions, Lady Sif has proven her resilience in the face of Asgard's hardships. She also boasts the most screen time of the group through which to demonstrate her power and proficiency, having appeared in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - although the canonicity of this show is still frustratingly unclear. Regardless, Lady Sif has proven to be a formidable combatant, typically alongside the Warriors Three, as she stood up to Frost Giants, Marauders, the Destroyer, and Dark Elves with few problems.
Lady Sif now trains the future Einherjar in New Asgard after having survived an encounter with Gorr the God Butcher, though she lost an arm for her efforts. Though her survival where the Warriors Three perished might suggest that she outpaces them in power levels, the fact that Sif avoided a confrontation with their murderer, Hela, is why she still lives today. Without seeing how she would fare in a bout with the Goddess of Death, it is difficult to place her ahead of the warrior who held his own for a spell.

9 Hogun Held His Own Against Hela
Last Appeared In Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Close
Hogun is of Vanir descent, but as one of the Warriors Three is presumably a naturalized Asgardian. Of the three, Hogun's stern and disciplined demeanor seems to have placed him ahead of his cohort in power levels, as he held his own against Hela for several moments where Fandral and Volstagg died almost instantly. It was as he led the Einherjar against the Goddess of Death that Hogun demonstrated his skill with a flail, surviving a one-on-one bout for several moments before Hela would ultimately impale him on a conjured blade.
Hogun's superiority was demonstrated early on in his MCU appearances. In the battle on Jotunheim during Thor's ill-fated attempt to retaliate against the Frost Giants, Hogun was the only member of the Warriors Three and Lady Sif to remain entirely unscathed, even saving Lady Sif from a seemingly fatal assault. This might raise questions surrounding whether the Vanir are physiologically superior to Asgardians, though Hogun's personality suggests that he simply takes conflict more seriously than his more lighthearted companions.
8 Frigga Is A Powerful Magic Wielder
Last Appeared In Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Close
Frigga did not have many opportunities to display the extent of her powers before she met her end at the hands of Malekith. It was the events leading up to this death, however, that Frigga demonstrated how formidable she could be. While her magic allowed her to mislead Malekith with a convincing illusion of Jane Foster, Frigga also demonstrated expertise with a sword as she overcame Malekith in hand-to-hand combat yet stopped short of ending his life.
This would lead her to be surprised and overpowered by Kurse before ultimately meeting her fate. Frigga is responsible for teaching Loki magic that would lead to his ascension to becoming a living temporal loom, which adds to her litany of achievements. As the Queen of Asgard, Frigga also boasts a level of political power that places her leagues ahead of other Asgardians, though she harbors the same powerful physiology as her kin.
7 King Valkyrie Tripped The Hulk
Last Appeared In The Marvels (2023)
Close
During Thor: Ragnarok, Brunnhilde was able to get the jump on Thor, subduing him in order to bring him to the Grandmaster. She also held her own against Hela for a short spell before it became apparent that the latter could not be beaten through typical means. She was even capable of knocking Hulk to the ground, though the Jade Giant was uncharacteristically jolly at the time.
As the leader of the Valkyrie, Brunnhilde was part of Asgard's elite force, demonstrating skills that were second only to Asgardian royalty. Meanwhile, while Chitauri Leviathans were previously shown to be the elite units that only a rage-fueled Hulk could take down, Brunnhilde was seen piercing one with her spear during the Battle of Earth. Now, King Valkyrie can add political power to her arsenal as she leads the nation of New Asgard, most recently seen taking in Skrull refugees in The Marvels.
6 Heimdall Can Destroy Entire Worlds
Last Appeared In Thor: Love And Thunder (2022)
Close
Heimdall was capable of seeing just about every minutia of the Nine Realms in his position as Asgard's Gatekeeper. He would also protect Asgard with impartial tenacity, promising even Asgardian royalty that he would not hesitate to kill them if the situation called for it. The implication is that he, with his two-handed sword, Hofund, would be more than capable.
Heimdall's power is significantly increased when he is in control of the Bifrost, which he would be until Thor: Ragnarok saw him abandon his post in exile. While the ability to transport anyone anywhere is powerful enough, the true extent of the Bifrost's power was explained in Thor, when Heimdall warned the titular hero that it was capable of destroying entire worlds. This is the kind of power tantamount to the Infinity Stones themselves, which would incidentally be the tools that led to his own demise.
5 Thor Has Grown To Become One Of The MCU's Most Powerful Characters
Last Appeared In Thor: Love And Thunder (2022)
Close
While in possession of two god-killer weapons, Thor is one of the most powerful beings in all of the MCU.
The erstwhile King of Asgard has undergone a significant amount of character growth throughout his MCU tenure, and with it came an exponential rise in power that saw him divest his true worth from Mjolnir, one of the MCU's most powerful weapons. As seems to be the case across the board when Marvel wishes to demonstrate the extent of a hero's power, Thor was capable of defeating Hulk, before the Grandmaster's intervention forced a win from his favorite champion. While in possession of two god-killer weapons, Thor is one of the most powerful beings in all of the MCU.
Thor is also the only one who was able to defeat Thanos twice. Had he gone for the head, Avengers: Infinity War would have ended in victory for the titular team and the denizens of Earth, but his failure would instead spark a downward spiral that put him on the back foot when it came to round four on Thanos' farm. Thor would also prove capable of defeating the leader of Omnipotence City, Zeus, with little effort, which throws into question whether his son, Hercules, could hope to measure up.
4 Only Fate Itself Could Defeat Hela
Last Seen In Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Close
Hela's arch-villainy in Thor: Ragnarok showed her to be a nigh-unstoppable force whose power was only quashed by fate itself. With her conjured necroswords, Hela was able to singlehandedly defeat Brunnhilde's army of elite Valkyrie, and subjugate Asgard with the almost performative aid of Skurge, her appointed Executioner. Her ability to summon an army of Berserkers also can't be overlooked as a significant tool for enacting her warlike plans.
The scene that introduced Thor's violent sister was quick to establish the threat she posed by having her effortlessly destroy Mjolnir with one hand. Though this did not mean she was worthy to lift it, the scene instead proved that the goddess of death was more powerful than one of the universe's most powerful weapons. Hela is also capable of far greater acts of subjugation than was seen in Thor: Ragnarok, with Thor's shrewd thinking and the sacrifice of Asgard being the only way to prevent her from resuming her conquest of the Nine Realms.
3 Merciful Hela Added Another Power To Her Arsenal
Last Appeared In What If...? Season 2 (2023)
Close
While the villainous Hela of Hel is capable of some incredibly powerful feats, the merciful Hela of Midgard in What If...Hela Found the Ten Rings? adds to that power with the aid of Jiaya. This included a proficiency for Aerokinesis that was deployed against Asgardian soldiers and her enraged father, Odin, who she would even overcome with the help of Xu Wenwu and his ten rings. This would ultimately culminate in Hela facing off against Thanos himself, which bodes well for the future of this particular reality.
Given this version of Hela followed a similar trajectory to Thor of Earth-616, it is safe to assume that she would experience a similar increase in power to her brother as she is no longer hindered by her ego. Given that she was able to best her father in combat with the aid of Wenwu, this might also put Merciful Hela on a course to exceed her father's power levels. As it stands, however, Odin is still leagues ahead.
2 Odin Is One Of The Most Powerful Beings In The Universe
Last Seen In Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Close
Odin was able to banish Hela to Hel with powerful magic that he has since demonstrated on a handful of occasions. The most famous demonstration of his godlike abilities was the enchantment that Odin placed upon Mjolnir, which precluded all branded "unworthy" from wielding the hammer. The implications of this enchantment are vast, as his words were able to prevent the MCU's strongest unworthy characters from lifting it until Hela resolved to destroy the hammer instead. He also effortlessly stripped Thor of his power, which is a truly godlike ability.
This brand of magic is aptly named the Odinforce, which is Odin's ace in the hole when it comes to Asgardian power. Regardless, Odin has demonstrated unparalleled physical and mental powers separate from the Odinforce, demonstrating a godlike awareness and nigh-invulnerability when embroiled in battle. Odin was able to defeat Surtur, the god responsible for Asgard's destruction, and many theorize that Thanos was waiting until Odin's death before carrying out his designs to wipe out half of the Universe for fear of Odin's power.
1 Loki Is Now A Capital-G God
Last Appeared In Loki Season 2 (2023)
Close
While it was in a conversation with Loki that Odin clarified that Asgardians were not gods, Loki's MCU story culminated in him becoming as close to one as possible in the MCU with a power tantamount to that of Eternity or the Watcher. Loki began with a power set that paled in comparison to his adoptive family, though his proficiency in trickery allowed him to deploy some particularly consequential illusions. Even as the arch-villain of The Avengers, Loki relied on the aid of cosmic entities to inflict his will on Earth.
He did so to ensure ultimate free will, but the fact that Loki can decide to wipe out entire universes on a whim makes him the most powerful Asgardian in the MCU.
After (mostly) flouting his villainous ways, he would eventually become the being responsible for creating and maintaining the multiverse itself. Now sitting in a space outside of time, Loki holds entire strands of realities in his hands - realities which he revived with his magic now at its fullest potential. He did so to ensure ultimate free will, but the fact that Loki can decide to wipe out entire universes on a whim makes him the most powerful Asgardian in the MCU.
