Ghosts Season 3 Ending Compared To Season 2's "Stomach-Churning" Cliffhanger: "[It's] Much Worse

Summary Ghosts actor Asher Grodman hints the season 3 cliffhanger will surpass season 2's.

Ghosts season 2 ended with the implication that one of the titular ghosts had disappeared from the inn.

Grodman suggests viewers will wish season 4 could premiere much sooner after watching the season 3 finale.

Ghosts actor Asher Grodman hints that the season 3 cliffhanger will be far worse than season 2's. In May 2023, Ghosts season 2 ended on an uncertain note, as one of the titular characters seemingly disappeared from the B&B and passed on to the afterlife. Viewers were left wondering exactly which member of the ensemble wouldn't be returning, and the wait was extended for longer than usual due to the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Now, the CBS series is gearing up for another cliffhanger, though luckily, Ghosts season 4 has already been renewed.

In an interview with Deadline, Grodman, who portrays the ghost Trevor in the show, discussed his views on the upcoming cliffhanger ending. He spoke about how amazing the last episode of season 3 is and compared the finale to the conclusion of Ghosts season 2. Check out Grodman's full comments below:

I’m just thinking how dramatic I want to get…I can tell you that if your stomach was churning at the cliffhanger of Season 2, Season 3 is going to be much worse. We have an amazing finish to Season 3... I know, there is that torturous thing of that flip or whatever it is that happens at the end of an episode. Something that our show does, it was one of the things that I loved about ‘Trevor’s Pants,’ is that they kind of turned something as trivial as a missing pair of pants into this commentary on bullying dynamics and then also did it as a murder mystery. So we do this thing where it’s a show about ghosts, but it’s also funny and weirdly sentimental at times. We’ve jumped genres. We’re gonna mess around in that surprising genre game at the end of Season 3 in a fun way. I think people will enjoy it. Unfortunately, or fortunately, you’re going to really wish there was one more episode or an episode coming out sooner.

Can Ghosts Season 3 Beat The Season 2 Cliffhanger?

Ghosts Season 3 Had A Shorter Run, But Still Packed In Surprises

Cliffhanger endings can always be a tricky choice for shows, and getting them wrong can make audiences feel manipulated or dissatisfied.

Ghosts season 3 had a truncated episode count, but that seems to have done little to slow its plot, with the season containing reveals about several new ghost powers, details about the backstories of some of the ghosts, and the resolution of two major Hetty mysteries, including her cause of death. Based on Grodman's comments, Ghosts isn't done there and will seek to provide a few more shocks and twists in the final episode.

Cliffhanger endings can always be a tricky choice for shows, and getting them wrong can make audiences feel manipulated or dissatisfied. For Ghosts to provide a satisfactory conclusion to season 3, it can't replicate last season's disappearing ghost story, and it needs to honor the various storylines established throughout the previous nine episodes. The shorter episode count runs the risk of the conclusion feeling rushed, though the confirmation that season 4 is on the way should help remedy that.

Grodman's comments suggest the Ghosts season 3 finale will be more emotionally weighty and affecting than the previous one. Potential cliffhangers could involve something drastic happening to the inn, or a game-changing circumstance for one of the ghosts. With season 4 already renewed, the finale, and, in particular, the centerpiece of Isaac's wedding, provides the perfect platform for Ghosts season 3 to end on an emotionally satisfying note and lay the groundwork for the future of the series.

The Ghosts season 3 finale airs at 8:30 PM ET on CBS on May 2.
