Warning: Contains spoilers for Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver #3!!

Magneto and his family are collectively some of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe. Although his relationship with his children has been fraught with complications, they’re all still deeply connected. Now, as the battle with Orchis rages on, Max’s grandson, Speed, is racing toward being part of the reunion as he seeks revenge for the attack on the Hellfire Gala.

Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver #3 brought together two of Marvel’s premiere speedsters, who just so happen to be uncle and nephew. Pietro Maximoff and Tommy Shepherd have had lamentably little time together, but Speed made a considerable contribution to Quicksilver’s battle against the Wizard’s henchmen.

He was eager to keep going and protect his mother, the Scarlet Witch, as he already lost his boyfriend in the Hellfire Gala attack. His uncle tasked him with avenging the Gala, setting Tommy on a path toward his aunt, Polaris, and Magneto, in their ongoing fight against Orchis.

The young speedster’s arrival would give the three of them an unprecedented chance to work together; combining Tommy’s power with both of Marvel's "Masters of Magnetism" would create a formidable and deadly team.

To say Magneto’s family's story is complex would be an understatement. It’s a tale of hurt feelings, violence, deception, and misunderstandings, punctuated by the discovery that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were never Max’s biological children. They’ve spent little time as a family unit, coming together only in times of great catastrophe like House of M, or Avengers: The Children’s Crusade, which marked Magneto’s first time meeting his grown grandchildren, Wiccan and Speed. Unfortunately, tragedy binds them again, as Tommy seems eager to follow Pietro's suggestion that he go after those responsible for his partner, Prodigy's, death.

Speed will have good company in the fight. Storm recently resurrected Max to assist mutantkind in the war against Orchis, and Lorna has already waded into the thick of it. The young speedster’s arrival would give the three of them an unprecedented chance to work together; combining Tommy’s power with both of Marvel's "Masters of Magnetism" would create a formidable and deadly team. It would be a strange, yet incredibly fitting, bonding activity, one that is long overdue. Notably, Magneto has already indirectly featured heavily in the Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver series, making Speed the perfect connection.

Tommy Shepherd has often taken a back seat to other family members...This quest to avenge Prodigy (who is not quite as dead as he believes) could finally give him a chance to shine.

Speed Deserves a Chance to Work With His Family

Orchis Isn't Prepared

Tommy Shepherd has often taken a back seat to other family members, and is rarely as involved in the wider universe as his twin brother, Wiccan. This quest to avenge Prodigy (who is not quite as dead as he believes) could finally give him a chance to shine. Mutants and their allies are hitting their enemy on several fronts, and Speed could help his aunt and grandfather land a crushing blow – one that would be all the more meaningful if done together. Magneto's family is on the path to an explosive reunion, possibly signaling Orchis' doom.
