Based On Gray's Advice
Close
Parish episode 5 picks up right where Parish episode 4 ended, with Gray returning home after Anton held Gray's wife and daughter hostage. In episode 4, Rose was shown killing one of their captors, with Mak distracting Anton's goon while Rose beat his head in with a weapon. Parish episode 5 confirmed that they also managed to kill the other man, with Gray, Rose, and Mak having to decide what to do with the bodies.
Rose initially wants to call the police, with her believing that they won't get in trouble due to the killings being in self-defense. Gray, however, knows that this would only make them more vulnerable to Anton's gang, with him attempting to convince his wife not to call the police. In the end, Rose decides not to, with her and Gray then having to figure out what to do with the bodies.

Close
Parish episode 4 also ended with the Horse deciding to confront Anton, teasing a tense face-off that would occur in season 5. After opening on Gray reuniting with his family, Parish episode 5 then sees the Horse appear at some sort of political event, with him hoping to confront Anton and challenge him for setting up the assassination and ensuing gang war.
The Horse manages to get a hold of Anton, with him putting on a show in front of the crowd. This causes Anton to ask if they can go into a private space in order to continue their conversation, with Anton undoubtedly not wanting to draw unneeded attention to the duo. Thus, the two duck into a room off of the main hallway, leading to them finally meeting face-to-face early in Parish episode 5.
8 Gray Gets Colin To Help With The Dead Bodies
Even Though The Police Could've Done It
Close
Back at the Parish household, Gray provides an alternative solution for dealing with the dead bodies, with him enlisting the help of Skeet Ulrich's Parish character Colin. Colin and Gray have butted heads throughout Parish so far, but Colin is still one of Gray's only friends who knows about his life of crime, meaning that enlisting his help in getting rid of the two dead bodies makes a lot of sense.
It isn't exactly known what Colin does to help out with the situation, although the dead bodies seem to be taken care of later in the episode. While Colin is working on getting rid of the bodies, Gray and his family begin making other preparations, hoping to skip town and avoid the wrath of Anton's gang. Because of this, Colin's role is comparatively small in Parish episode 5.

Upon doing so, Zenzo makes a big reveal, with him telling Shamiso that he was the mole that organized the hit on their brother.
As it turns out, the siblings' father made a deal with Anton, with the price being the Horse's head. Thus, Zenzo leaked information of the Horse's route to Anton, allowing them to ambush him. Shamiso is upset that Zenzo knowingly put the Horse's son in danger, and while Zenzo doesn't seem happy about having done so, he does point out that getting rid of the Horse has caused both of them to move up in the gang. However, this will come back to bite them.

Using a stack of cups, Gray sets up an elaborate chain reaction that will burn his house down several hours after his family is gone, with this plan turning out to be successful.
By the time the building ignites, Gray and his family are long gone, although they are indecisive about where they want to go or what their next move should be. Gray hopes to get the insurance money from the house fire and sell his business, allowing the family to start a new life far away from New Orleans and Anton's gang. Before this plan is enacted, though, Gray ends up taking some different actions.
4 Gray Revels His Criminal History To His Family
Finally Telling Them The Truth
Close
Gray keeping his past a secret from his family has been a major element of the series all the way since Parish episode 1, but Gray finally makes the decision to be open in episode 5. Gray goes into detail about his history, explaining that he stole his first car at age 16 and that he continued doing it because he was good at it. He explains all the way up until the modern day, giving context for why Anton is after them.
Rose is surprised by some of the details, but admits that she always knew that Gray had a shady past, saying that she simply didn't want to know details. Although Rose knew about some of it, this is all new information to Mak, however, who seems to be shocked about her father's history of illegal activities.

According to Rose, she found Maddox's gun in his bedroom after his death, not knowing what it was for. However, she decided not to tell anybody, with her only using it to stop Anton's two men in Parish episode 5. 2 Horse Gives Gray A Recording Of His Son’s Death
Revealing How He Died
Close
Before the Parish family was able to leave New Orleans, one of the Horse's men tossed Gray a package, with him not knowing what it was. Later in the episode, it is revealed to be a recording from the night that Gray's son died, with it featuring an unknown man explaining that he accidentally shot a kid who looked like he had a gun.
This recording causes Gray to spiral, with him reliving many of the memories he had with Maddox before playing the recording for his family. It becomes clear that Anton had some kind of role in the death of Gray's son, causing Gray to leave his family and furiously drive back to New Orleans, hoping to get answers. This is one of the darkest moments in Parish so far, perfectly setting up the season 1 finale.
