Dead Boy Detectives Season 2 Could Bring These Characters Back After Their Series Finale

Summary Netflix's Dead Boy Detectives could feature Doom Patrol characters in season 2.

The two shows have already intersected in Doom Patrol, allowing for possible crossover potential as the series established the existence of a multiverse.

The entire cast or sections of it could arrive in the Dead Boy Detective's universe in a variety of ways.

Netflix's paranormal series Dead Boy Detectives could bring the characters from a specific HBO Max series back in season 2, allowing audiences to see how these characters have developed post-series finale. Dead Boy Detectives is based on the comic series of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Mark Wagner, following the adventures of Edwin Paine (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), two boys who decide to remain among the living and assist in solving supernatural mysteries. The show was originally developed by Steve Yockey as a spin-off of Doom Patrol for HBO Max.

However, the series was moved from HBO Max to Netflix due to the changing plans for the DC Universe, as DC Studios planned to have their HBO Max shows join the main movie universe, which Dead Boy Detectives was not compatible with. Gaiman then announced that the show would instead be a spin-off of Netflix's The Sandman instead of the Doom Patrol series and signed on to executive produce in 2023. Despite this change, the Doom Patrol characters could still cross over into season 2 of Dead Boy Detectives, as both sets of characters have interacted in the past.

The Dead Boy Detectives were already seen in Doom Patrol, as they assisted Dorothy and Larry in resurrecting the rest of the team. Though they were played by different actors, the two stories could still intersect as Doom Patrol's crossover with Titans established the existence of a multiverse, allowing the characters to potentially cross into the Netflix series' reality in a variety of ways.

Doom Patrol's characters, due to their finale endings, could allow for ample opportunities for a crossover with The Sandman spinoff series. Both Cliff and Rita are dead by the end of the series finale after the team loses their immortality. This could allow them to be transferred to another universe, leading them to ask Edwin and Charles for help to get to the afterlife. They could also linger and assist the group on a separate case, acting as mentors to the group as they also try to get home.

Larry and Jane could also be featured similarly upon their potential arrival to Netflix's Dead Boy Detectives universe. While both characters are still alive, the two could also be transported to Edwin and Charles through their own abilities going haywire, with Larry remembering their version of the boys and asking them for assistance. This could result in a reunion and even further connections across DC's television universe, as the Doom Patrol could also meet characters from The Sandman during their potential appearance in season 2.
