Finding he likes his new environs enough to take a demotion, Shepherd stays on in Brokenwood and partners with a local cop named Detective Kristin Sims (Fern Sutherland) to crack various cases.

Unlike its American counterparts, The Brokenwood Mysteries' seasons are relatively brief, allowing for pointed and interesting stories without too much filler. The series is largely carried by the chemistry between the country music-loving Shepherd and the straight-laced Sims, and though it follows in the footsteps of murder mystery shows from Brittain, it's nevertheless an entertaining addition to the genre.
