As the X-Men line relaunches across Marvel Comics following the Fall of X, young mutants regroup in New York City for ongoing title NYX. Since Laura Kinney’s character has had a complex, tricky run during the mutants’ recent Krakoa era, the younger Wolverine is poised to start fresh in the big city with a sharp new look.

As revealed by Marvel, the upcoming NYX series finds Laura Kinney’s Wolverine leading an X-team with Ms. Marvel including Prodigy, Anole, and Sophie Cuckoo. On artist Sara Pichelli's cover featuring the big city mutants, Wolverine gets the fiercest makeover with an updated streetwear-inspired look.

The new costume keeps some elements of the usual Wolverine suit, including the yellow and black color scheme. However, bold fashion changes in this version of the costume include a sharper cowl with more severe lines and edges, along with a cozy athletic jacket-type design on the top.

In a sense, this version of Laura Kinney is practically an entirely new hero, entering what also seems to be a completely fresh take on the premise of NYX.

Laura’s character debuted as X-23, with her first appearance in the animated series X-Men Evolution, before making the leap to comics.

Laura Kinney’s new NYX look blends her classic Wolverine suit with the casual-wear she often sported in her early appearances. Though the character has had many names and costumes since her 2003 debut, the daughter of Wolverine’s most iconic looks include her homage to her father’s yellow-and-blue suit, and her initial civilian-like outfits, including variations of black leather. Laura’s leather X-Men film-inspired clothes stuck around until she joined Xavier’s school; subsequently, as the character has continued to evolve, so has her style and visual design.

Assuming the mantle of Wolverine in 2015 led Laura to her own version of the classic yellow-and-blue costume, reminiscent of Logan in All-New Wolverine #1 – by Tom Taylor, David López, David Navarrot, and Nathan Fairbairn. Though there have been variations on this form over the years, Laura went back to her All-New Wolverine costume as recently as the Krakoa era. The character has gone through many changes in this time, including having a Krakoan duplicate of herself made when she’s assumed dead in the Vault. The original Laura aged centuries in her temporal trap, and died under new alias Talon during the Fall of X.

As X-Men's current version of Laura Kinney enters NYX with a fresh and inventive style, inspired by modern streetwear, Wolverine redefines herself in a brand-new era for mutants in Marvel Comics.

Since the original Laura died, only her Krakoan clone remains in the mainstream Marvel continuity, as the X-Men rise From the Ashes of the Krakoan Era. Though this version of Laura has her predecessor’s pre-Vault memories, she technically didn’t experience the character’s full lore, including her traumatic origin in Joe Quesada, Joshua Middleton, and Rob Teranishi’s original NYX limited series. In a sense, this version of Laura Kinney is practically an entirely new hero, entering what also seems to be a completely fresh take on the premise of NYX.

Though both Laura and the comic she debuted in were both moody and gritty, the 2024 NYX reboot looks to be more optimistic in tone. Logan’s daughter has had a rich and diverse history since her introduction, and that time has allowed for a wide range of fashions. The character has aged from temperamental teenager X-23, to Old Woman Laura, wearing everything from casual outfits to iconic super-suits.
