Today's Connections Hints & Answers For April 6, 2024 (Puzzle #299)
Time for a new Connections and today's categories might cause a few players to lose their long-standing win streaks, but not us, we never lose (we lost today.) Sometimes the game just gets you with its mix of words that seem similar but aren't quite right and for today's game, we got hung up on many of those incorrect Connections.
One of the best tips for anyone getting into the game of Connections is to utilize the shuffle button provided at the bottom. Oftentimes, the game will put words next to each other at the start to attempt to trick your brain into making them fit. Hitting shuffle right away can break that up and hopefully avoid some lost attempts.

Yellow Answers: Revealed & Explained
BREADTH EXTENT RANGE REACH SCOPE
We did end up scoring the yellow category today before our loss, so there's a small victory. RANGE and EXTENT pushed us into the correct category with SCOPE and REACH coming in quickly behind. RANGE did try to trick us at first and we lost an attempt trying to fit it in with the wrong words. SCOPE, REACH, and CREST are also all types of toothpaste which quickly lost us a few more attempts, it just wasn't our day.
Green Answers: Revealed & Explained
HAIR TOOLS BRUSH COMB IRON DRYER
IRON, STEEL, and SHIELD all threw us off our game today and we didn't even come close to scoring anything except yellow. Sometimes you just get stuck on something and you can't let it go. Hair care tools is a cool category and makes total sense now that we've seen the answers. IRON can be used in a few different ways and if we had just thought curling IRON perhaps we could have at least scored green.

HERALDRY TERMS ARMS COAT CREST SHIELD
Another category we didn't get to score today, but a good one nonetheless. CREST and SHIELD really should have given this one away and even though we may not have seen ARMS matching up at first, it makes perfect sense in hindsight.
While looking up COAT of ARMS we found some fantastic national ones on the Sparrow & Dove website. We were particularly enamored with Thailand's use of Garuda, which is the mount of Lord Vishnu in Hinduism. That is one of the coolest-looking birds I've ever seen.
Purple Answers: Revealed & Explained
WORDS BEFORE “DRUM” EAR KETTLE OIL STEEL
STEEL was a real Achilles heel for us in today's game. It's obvious match with IRON sent us on a wild goose chase that eventually led to our demise. KETTLE also didn't come easily as we didn't know what a KETTLE drum was by name. After a quick Google it was clear, I prefer a tea KETTLE but I'm not the editor of Connections.
