Although a number of marquee releases are eagerly awaited, there are a number of impressive-looking games that are currently flying under the radar.

From puzzle platformers to tactics RPGs, there are plenty of overlooked game poised to make a big splash when they release in 2024.

After a year of back-to-back releases of massive video games in 2023 for both consoles and PC, it doesn't look like game developers are slowing down any in 2024. The already-announced releases that are planned for the coming months have so many incredible-looking games that it is easy to forget about some, even ones that sound pretty impressive in their own right. As the launches of each of these titles draw closer, they will likely pick up a bit more hype, but even now it is fun to look at what is on the horizon and relish the anticipation of what games look appealing.

No matter the genre or platform that players prefer, the upcoming games in 2024 already have something for everyone. Due to how many big releases are expected, some have slowly begun to be overshadowed already. Many of these games have been anticipated for years already, making them somewhat of a background thought for those who are excited about them simply because of how long they have waited. Some of these also do not yet have specific dates for when they will be available other than simply that it will be this year.

15 The Plucky Squire (TBD 2024)

Unique mechanics of jumping between 2D and 3D worlds is key in the story of The Plucky Squire, where storybook characters, including the evil Humgrump, discover there is a three-dimensional world beyond the pages of the book. After the hero, Jot, and his friends get kicked out of the book, they have to find their way back in to defeat Humgrump and bring back the happy ending.

The Plucky Squire does not have a specified release date yet, other than simply 2024. The game is an action-adventure where players take on the role of Jot to solve puzzles, fight against enemies, compete in mini-challenges, and more in both the 3D world and the 2D storybook environments. Actions taken in the 3D world will directly influence things happening inside the book, which leads to many creative solutions to problems.

The vampire survival game, V Rising, has been in Early Access for players to enjoy for the past two years, but is finally looking forward to launching its full 1.0 version of the game on PC on May 8, 2024. A PS5 version of the game has been announced to arrive later in 2024, but no specific date has been provided for that release yet. Many packs and DLCs are already available for the game, expanding upon its story and offering even more content.

V Rising is often described as a cross between Diablo and Valheim, offering both the typical isometric survival game mechanics with base building and an RPG-filled narrative with open-world combat. Rather than slaying vampires as is done in many games, in V Rising, players take on the role of a newly awakened vampire, trying to survive and rise to become the next Dracula.

13 Epic Mickey: Rebrushed (Fall 2024)

Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is an upcoming remake of the 2010 game by the same name, bringing the mischievous side of Mickey Mouse to modern consoles once again. After discovering a mysterious paintbrush that lets Mickey create worlds, the Disney mascot accidentally releases an evil villain. After being dragged into the ink-worlds by monsters, Mickey must figure out how to stop them and get back to his world, armed only with a magic paintbrush.

The 3D platformer lets players play as Mickey and use paint to restore beauty to the world of the Wastelands, and uncover its hidden secrets. Along with the magic paint, Mickey also can do actions such as dash, ground pound, and sprint. While no official release date has been specified yet, it is planned for release sometime in the fall of 2024.

12 Black Myth: Wukong (August 20)

Based on one of the classic novels of Chinese literature, Black Myth: Wukong is a beautiful and fascinating ARPG that is filled with ancient Chinese mythology. Players take on the role of the Destined One, traveling across a treacherous landscape filled with enemies and rivals to fight. The Destined One is a master of the staff, but also can use spells, abilities, equipment, and other weapons as the player desires.

The protagonist of Black Myth: Wukong is Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King, and is one of the most powerful deities in Chinese mythology. This 3rd-person video game adaptation of his story includes many of the wonderous creatures and locations from the novel Journey to the West in an action-packed narrative. The game is expected to be released on August 20, 2024.

11 Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble (June 25)

The vibrant colors, cheerful music, and speedy rolling of Super Monkey Ball is back with the upcoming Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble exclusive for the Nintendo Switch, launching on June 25. Rolling through over 200 levels, players will gather bananas and try not to fall off while gaining speed. Like some of its early predecessors, the game will include a lighthearted story for players in its Adventure mode. This mode will allow anywhere from 1 to 4 players to be able to work together in seeking out the seven special artifacts that will ultimately lead them to The Legendary Banana.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble will also offer an online multiplayer that supports up to 16 players, where everyone competes in several game modes to become Top Banana. Over 300 customization options are available to let players personalize their monkey and its monkey ball.

10 MultiVersus (May 28)

The chaotic party battler, MultiVersus, gives everyone a chance to battle it out using characters from the many franchises owned by Warner Bros. This means epic matches can see Superman fighting Finn from Adventure Time or Scooby Doo's Shaggy can duke it out with the Tazmanian Devil. The game will be released as free-to-play, with optional in-game purchases and seasonal Battle Passes available, although all characters can be earned through playing the free version.

Some may recall that MultiVersus was available to play in open beta for over a year until June 2023, when developers shut down the servers. Since that time, the team took the feedback they received to completely overhaul that game from scratch on a new game engine, with new netcode, and more in preparation for its full launch on May 28, 2024.

9 Manor Lords (April 26)

Building a village into a city and managing all the necessary resources and production chains are not the only aspects of this sim, however, as expansion in the medieval world will require conquests and battle. Whether watching over residents and managing resources and budgets, or leading troops into battle against neighboring lords, the handcrafted game promises to keep people on their toes when it releases on April 26.

The game's solo developer has stated that their goal in making Manor Lords was to prioritize historical accuracy for the medieval world in as many ways as possible. The game is designed to feel authentic and believable, while still offering plenty of enjoyable goals and game mechanics.

8 SPYxANYA: Operation Memories (June 28)

Fans of the popular anime Spy x Family are likely excited to see that the new video game, SPYxANYA: Operation Memories, is planned for release this summer. The game has an anticipated release date of June 28, 2024, for consoles with the Steam version on PC coming at a later date. Six-year-old Anya Forger is tasked with a school assignment to create a photo diary of her daily life, which is likely to be a bit different from that of most of her classmates.

Living in a pieced-together family of super spies under the guise of being a normal family, even regular family outings such as going to the beach or a museum could prove more challenging. The game will include a variety of mini-games inspired by the anime.

7 Cat Quest: Pirates of the Purribean (TBD 2024)

The popular RPG adventure series featuring an adorable feline protagonist is back for the third entry in its series with Cat Quest: Pirates of the Purribean in 2024. This time around, players take on the role of a purrivateer in an open-world 2.5D world that is full of pi-rats while they seek out the best treasures. The pirate themes and puns are in full swing, with new weapons such as the blunderpuss.

Gameplay for Cat Quest: Pirates of the Purribean will not only take place on land as the previous games did, but now players will have control of their own pirate ship to explore even more of the world. Following the multiplayer success of Cat Quest 2, this pirate adventure will be playable as either single player or two-player local co-op.

6 World Of Goo 2 (May 23)

The original World of Goo game made its debut back in 2008, and now a sequel to the sticky puzzle game was announced at The Game Awards 2023 and now has announced a release date for May 23, 2024. The gooey game will be launching on Nintendo Switch and PC via the Epic Games store. It will also be playable on Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free via the World of Goo 2 website.

World of Goo 2 is being developed by the same team that made the first game fifteen years ago. This puzzle game is teased to be even bigger and better than the original. Like the first World of Goo, this physics-based game offers a chance for players to use their imaginations to make even the most ridiculous ideas possible.

5 Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes (April 23)

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is one of those impressive games that has been in the background since it was first announced in 2020, despite being one of the biggest gaming Kickstarter projects at the time. As its name implies, the game features a large cast of over 100 characters that can join the players' 6-person party in its intricate narrative in a war-torn world. With this many characters to choose from, recruiting companions will allow anyone to make the game fit their play style.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is one of those impressive games that has been in the background since it was first announced in 2020.

This modern take on a classic JRPG experience features beautifully unique diorama-style artwork as it tells the story of how a young imperial officer and a boy from a remote village become friends and are brought into the middle of a war. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is scheduled to be released on April 23, 2024, for all major platforms, including Xbox Game Pass.

4 Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution (TBD 2024)

Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution was originally in development 20 years ago for the Game Boy Advance, but the project was canceled before it could be completed. Now, developers have gone back and are completing the game, to be released for the PS4, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and even the Game Boy Advance. The GBA version of the game will only be a limited-run release, honoring the original plan for the game development.

The game is set between the first and second games in the series, despite there currently being five games in the franchise. Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution will be a fully restored experience set in Sequin Land, including a new 4-player Battle Mode. Currently, there is no specified release date other than that it will launch in 2024, although unconfirmed rumors say it is being anticipated for an October release.

3 Homeworld 3 (May 13)

Homeworld 3 is a sci-fi RTS where players can take control of a fleet of spaceships to battle in open space as well as across the crumbling remains of an ancient civilization. Despite it being the third in the Homeworld series, the game is designed to be a standalone experience for anyone to enjoy, regardless of their level of familiarity with the overarching story. Following the events of Homeworld 2, the galaxy has had an age of abundance thanks to the Hyperspace Gate Network. Sadly, the gates are now failing and Karan has passed into only being a myth.

In addition to the story campaign, Homeworld 3 will give players several different game modes to enjoy when it releases on May 13, 2024. A new co-op mode offers a roguelike twist, and several pvp experiences are available for 1v1, free for all, or team battles.

Neo Berlin 2087 is a cinematic detective thriller role-playing game that is designed with a 3rd- and 1st-person viewpoint in a dark imagined future of Berlin. Filled with dystopian sadness and ominously negative cyberpunk elements, the world has been heavily impacted by technological advancements, and it is up to a detective with a dark past to protect the police chief's daughter after the chief was found savagely murdered.

The police chief's daughter could be the only remaining key to unlocking a mystery, and it is up to the brilliant-but-troubled Detective Nolan to find Natalie and protect her. A conspiracy threatens to overpower the city of Neo Berlin, and the community that is already low on hope. The emotionally charged thriller does not have a specific release date yet but is planned to be launched in 2024.

1 Stellar Blade (April 26)

Formerly known as Project EVE, the PlayStation-exclusive Stellar Blade was first teased to the public in April 2019. Now, five years later, the action game is almost ready for its full release. Protagonist Eve travels to Earth from a human colony in space with a mission to reclaim the home planet from an evil force known as the NA:tive.

The post-apocalyptic world has a touch of horror mixed in with its action-adventure focus, along with a heavy dose of combat. Upon reaching Earth, Eve finds a survivor who brings her to the last city of humans on the planet. Naturally, Eve's mission becomes much more complicated than it at first seemed, and the game is an emotionally-charged and thought-provoking narrative. Stellar Blade will be released on April 26, 2024.
