Did John Siegel Remove The Body From Olivia's Car?

Jonathan Seigel had good reason to get rid of the body

After Sugar finds Clifford Carter's body in Olivia's car, Olivia's grandfather, Jonathan Seigel, is the first person to know about it from the titular detective. For obvious reasons, Jonathan Seigel is surprised by Sugar's discovery because it confirms that Olivia could be in danger. Sugar, however, tries to assure him that even though he is obligated to inform the police about finding the body, he will get rid of it for him. Since John Seigel knew about the body and wanted Sugar to get rid of it, it seems likely that he hired someone to do it because he did not completely trust the detective.

Given his power and influence, he would have all the means to hire someone else to get rid of the body before Sugar. Sugar's episodes 1 and 2 also suggest that John Seigel hired Sugar because he, unlike most of his other family members, deeply cares about Olivia. To ensure Olivia's safety and keep her out of trouble, John Seigel must have taken it upon himself to remove the body from the car after realizing that Olivia might have killed the man before disappearing.

Since Olivia was regularly visiting Melanie before disappearing, it seems possible that Melanie helped her hide after she killed Clifford. After Melanie realized that Sugar might find more evidence surrounding the crime through the body, she also made provisions to get rid of it to protect Olivia.

Considering how even Olivia's fate is unknown, she also might have removed the body from her car to shroud evidence of the murder. As seen in Sugar episode 2, Davy and Bernie Seigel also seem invested in Olivia's case. While the reason behind their involvement remains unknown, they might have done something to get rid of the body to prevent Sugar from digging deeper into the case. Since Bernie briefly mentions in episode 2 that there are several allegations against Davy, they probably fear that Sugar might uncover the skeletons in their closet the more he learns about Olivia.

There is more to Clifford's death and Olivia's disappearance than meets the eye

When Sugar checks Clifford Carter's background, he learns that he has a long criminal record and had even raped and murdered a woman named Carmen Vasquez before his death. Olivia Seigel's car's GPS reveals that she had visited Carmen multiple times before her murder. Her social media also shows that she was trying to follow in her mother's footsteps by getting involved in women's activism. These details suggest that Olivia killed Clifford Carter to avenge Carmen's death.

After Olivia murdered Carter, Melanie likely helped her hide, which would explain why she keeps trying to convince Sugar that Olivia will return home soon.

In Sugar episode 2's ending arc, a few men show up at Carmen's sister's home and show her a picture of Melanie with Carmen. This suggests Melanie also knew Carmen and may have been involved in Olivia's plan to kill Clifford.
