David Corenswet Teases What To Expect From The New Superman Movie 2 Months After Filming Begins

Summary The Superman film is based on For All Seasons & All-Star, but will be "totally its own thing."

David Corenswet, who is playing Superman in James Gunn's movie, teases new expectations.

In a newly released video, Corenswet discusses more about the film, giving audiences a closer idea of what the 2025 release may look like.

David Corenswet, who is set to play the titular hero in James Gunn's Superman movie, shares new expectations from the upcoming DC Universe film. One of the earliest installments in Gunn's DC Universe will be the Superman movie, as it will help set the foundation for Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters." Corenswet is the latest actor to join Superman's live-action media legacy as he will be taking on the role of the Man of Steel in Gunn's franchise.

Gunn's Superman movie has been filming for nearly two months, as the cast has been busy finally portraying their respective characters. David Thompson, who was present at an event recently that Corenswet was attending, mentioned how the actor had said that Superman is "based on For All Seasons & All-Star," while stressing that the story will be "totally its own thing."

The two Superman comics that are being referred to are Superman For All Seasons by Jeph Loeb and All-Star Superman by Grant Morrison. All-Star Superman was one of the first influences that Gunn revealed for the DC Universe, as it will draw inspiration from the story rather than be a full-on adaptation.

What DC Comics Influences James Gunn Has Revealed For His Superman Movie

Outside of Superman For All Seasons and All-Star Superman, there are a lot of other DC influences driving Gunn's new movie. Two animated properties that are part of Gunn's Superman film inspirations are Superman: The Animated Series and Max Fleischer's Superman serials. Whether or not any other on-screen Superman adaptations factor into the new film is unclear.

Mark Waid and Alex Ross's Kingdom Come is another major influence on the Superman movie, particularly due to the version of the House of El symbol. While it remains to be seen if the movie will be drawing any specific story elements from Kingdom Come, Gunn's DC Universe movie will be the second live-action release to use the Kingdom Come S-shield, following Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover with Brandon Routh. Gunn also shared on social media that Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow and elements from the Golden and Silver Age comics also inspired his Superman movie script.

It is exciting to know that Gunn is looking at a lot of past Superman stories and adaptations while also adding something new to the Man of Tomorrow's live-action adventure. In a way, this also allows Gunn's Superman movie to pay tribute to those past comics and shows, even as the focus is placed on the DCU's new future. Hopefully, as Superman gets further into principal photography, more elements of the DC Universe film will be revealed in the coming months.
