Acapulco Season 4: Will It Happen? Everything We Know

Summary Acapulco, a hit show on Apple TV+, may be renewed for season 4 due to its success and consistent renewals in the past.

The series intertwines narratives across the 1980s and present day, focusing on Maximo's journey and sacrifices for success.

The expected return of key characters, such as Maximo and his friends, ensures season 4 will continue delivering twists and engaging storylines.

Apple TV+'s unconventional dramedy series Acapulco has brought plenty of laughs and intriguing twists throughout its first three seasons thus far, but will it be renewed for season 4? Based on the 2017 film How to Be a Latin Lover, the TV series follows Maximo, a wealthy man in the present day who recounts his life story to a curious nephew. Most of the series is set at the luxurious Las Colinas Resort in the 1980s where young Maximo has landed a job and tries to work his way up the ladder while dealing with family strife and relationship woes.

The intertwining narrative gives the series a unique framework to operate in, and Acapulco delivers just as many dramatic swerves as it does quirky laughs. Shows like Acapulco are exceedingly rare because they manage to keep the humor high while also delving deep into their themes. In Acapulco's case, the theme is often the sacrifices that come along with climbing the ladder of success, and it makes for an engaging watch. With Apple TV+ eager to renew its more popular programs, Acapulco has already aired a trio of well-recieved seasons, and season 4 could be coming soon.

Acapulco Season 4 Is Not Confirmed

Apple TV+ Hasn't Renewed The Show Yet

Acapulco has proven to be a hit for the streamer in the past, and it has scored a consistent renewal without much delay from Apple.

Unlike most streaming-exsclusive programs, Acapulco is not released all at once, and has instead opted for a weekly release schedule like most of Apple TV+'s best shows. Because of this, the immediate success of the show's third season will not be apparent until the 10th episode premieres and Apple TV+ likely won't renew or cancel it until then. However, Acapulco has proven to be a hit for the streamer in the past, and it has scored a consistent renewal without much delay from Apple.

Acapulco season 2 premiered on May 1, 2024 and will conclude on June 26, 2024.

Season 1 premiered in October of 2021 and ran for 10 episodes before concluding in early December of the same year. Fans only had to wait a few months for Apple to decide the fate of Acapulco season 2, and it was renewed in March 2022 with very little hesitation. Similarly, when season 2 concluded in December 2022, Acapulco scored an even faster renewal when it was picked up in January 2023. It's unclear how the strike-affected year of 2023 will impact season 3's viewership, but it will likely continue to be popular enough to justify season 4.

Acapulco Season 4 Cast

Expect Maximo & His Friends To Return

One thing that makes Acapulco such a unique series is that it weaves two different narratives into the story at one time, and is spread out across the 1980s and the present day. Additionally, the characters of Acapulco are its strongest element, and its expected that most of the main cast will be back for season 4, barring some major change during the course of season 3. Most importantly, Maximo, played by both Eugenio Derbez and Enrique Arrizon, will have to return to finish off his story that only gets more intriguing with each episode.

Additionally, Maximo's young nephew Hugo has taken an important spot in the cast, and it stands to reason that Raphael Alejandro will be back to play him. Other important figures from Maximo's life are also integral to the plot, and key characters like Fernando Carsa's Memo and Camila Perez' Julia should also be back in season 4. With so many twists and turns, it's also expected that a few new characters will be added as well.

The presumptive cast of Acapulco season 4 includes:

Acapulco Season 4 Story

Maximo's Tale Only Gets More Complicated

Close

While each season of Acapulco thus far has done a good job of wrapping up some storylines while leaving others open-ended, there is a conclusiveness that makes predicting season 4's plot somewhat difficult. However, certain revelations have put a new spin on the story, and those will likely play out across season 3 and ultimately impact season 4's trajectory. The twist that Maximo has a young daughter in the present day sent viewers off with more than a few puzzles after season 2, but season 3 will likely wrap that storyline up.

One thing that can be predicted about season 4 is that Maximo will continue to scratch and claw his way up to the top throughout the '80s, making friends and enemies along the way. Presumably, Maximo's entire career arc will take quite a while to cover, and Acapulco season 4 could introduce new wrinkles as the decade wears on.
