All American Season 6 Episode Count Increase & Finale Date Revealed

Summary All American season 6 gets 2 additional episodes, bringing it to a total of 15.

This adjustment to the season schedule comes with a new airdate for the season finale, on July 15.

This season is the shortest ever, despite having more episodes than the original order.

All American season 6 is expanding. The show, which premiered on The CW in 2018, is based on the true story of pro football player Spencer Paysinger. The lead character is Spencer James (Daniel Ezra), whose recruitment to Beverly Hills High kicks off the show's exploration of the differing lives of the citizens of Crenshaw and Beverly Hills. The new season began airing on April 1 instead of the show's usual Fall premiere date, as the episodes were delayed amid the 2023 Hollywood strikes while writers and then actors took to the picket lines to fight for fair pay.

Per Deadline, The CW has announced that All American season 6 is getting two additional episodes, bringing its total count to 15 episodes. Because of the season's increased length, the show's overall release dates have also been changed and the finale is now set to air on Monday, July 15. While this total is an increase from the season's initial episode order of 13, this post-strike season is still the shortest-ever season of the show, as it is still one episode shy of the 16-episode count given to seasons 1 and 2.

This Is The Best News For All American In A While

The CW Show Has Hit A Rough Patch

The fact that season 6 is expanding is a spot of good news for a show that has been at the center of a firestorm of complicated behind-the-scenes issues. During the recent transition when The CW was sold to Nexstar, nearly all of the scripted programs that were on the air at the time were either cancelled or had their next seasons revealed to be their last. All American was one of just four shows that were picked up under the new regime.

Despite the renewal meaning that the show had the chance to stay on the air, the remaining scripted shows were still hit with budget and cast cuts. This includes the sports drama announcing the exit of main cast member Hunter Clowdus just days before the season premiered, although the All American season 6 trailer had already hinted at this departure when it didn't feature his character. After such dramatic changes for the program and for the network in general, this surprise expansion of the season is one of the most positive developments the show has had in a while.

Hunter Clowdus played JJ Parker, a football player who was a recurring character for the first three seasons of the show before being promoted to the main cast for seasons 4 and 5.

It remains to be seen if this news reflects an overall positive future for the show. So far, All American season 7 has not been officially confirmed, nor has season 4 of the Homecoming spinoff. However, the fact that the season will be airing additional episodes may mean that recent reports that a potential renewal would require budget cuts was premature. At the very least, it’s possible that the creators of the show have found a workaround for budgetary restrictions that have allowed them to tell the story of the show in a more expansive manner without running up costs.

All American season 6 airs on The CW on Mondays at 8/7C.
