Dead Boy Detectives: Rowena Actress On Potential Supernatural Actors Showing Up & Dream Crossover Ideas

Summary Supernatural star Ruth Connell discusses fun crossover ideas with Dead Boy Detectives for potential future seasons on Netflix.

The Sandman universe continues to grow with Dead Boy Detectives, exploring the adventures of two deceased teenage detectives.

A hypothetical crossover between Supernatural and Dead Boy Detectives could involve traveling between different universes and meeting iconic characters.

Dead Boy Detectives and Supernatural star Ruth Connell chat about some fun crossover ideas between the two TV shows, as well as potential actors who could show up from The CW drama. Netflix is investing more into The Sandman universe as Dead Boy Detectives mark the latest project in the franchise. Based on Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner's creations, Dead Boy Detectives explores the adventures of two dead teenagers, Edwin Paine and Charles Rowland, as they attempt to escape Death herself while serving as supernatural detectives.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant to promote Dead Boy Detectives, Connell, who plays Night Nurse in the Netflix drama, was asked about the potential of having some of her former Supernatural co-stars appear in a future season. As she played Rowena MacLeod on The CW drama, which Dead Boy Detectives co-showrunner Steve Yockey worked on for several seasons, Connell shared some fun ideas of a hypothetical Supernatural crossover, potentially with the Winchester brothers themselves, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles,) stating the following:

Ruth Connell: I think it would be really fun if it was done like an Easter egg. I don't know if Edwin and Charles have seen much television. Do they watch much TV, Edwin and Charles? Do they have shows they watch? I don't know, maybe they could relate to two guys on the road. Maybe it could be something with Jensen and Jared, but my partner, Rob Benedict, was just at a fan convention in Birmingham and one in Rome, and all the Supernatural fans were saying, 'Tell Ruth we loved Dead Boy Detectives!' A lot of people said they were really excited, so I'm glad there's that appeal to both that they made a point of seeing that.

Screen Rant: It would kind of be fun to see all four of those boys come together somehow and see who is the ultimate investigative duo? I don't know if that would break the fandom or not, but I'm just putting it out there.

Ruth Connell: I feel like Alex Calvert could come over, maybe he's got a case to solve. Maybe he needs them to sort out something with Lucifer! [laughs] I don't know, it gets complicated then because we've got different Gods and different Lucifers. I'm sure something can be arranged.

How A Dead Boy Detectives & Supernatural Crossover Could Realistically Happen

Supernatural Is Known For Having Crossovers.

Close

Given the similar genres that Supernatural and Dead Boy Detectives are both based on, the idea of traveling between different universes is not far-fetched.

While it has been almost four years since Supernatural season 15 ended on The CW, that doesn't mean the iconic series couldn't live on in other ways, and Dead Boy Detectives could perhaps be the perfect platform for the show. In the past, Supernatural has had its fair share of crossovers with other popular properties, including the famous episode where Sam and Dean met the Scooby-Doo gang. Assuming Dead Boy Detectives season 2 goes forward, there is a proper way they could have a traditional crossover.

Related Dead Boy Detectives Season 1 Ending Explained Netflix's Dead Boy Detectives, which exists in the Sandman universe, includes a fast-paced ending that creates many questions and cliffhangers.

The way to do a hypothetical crossover is by having either Sam and Dean come to The Sandman universe or Edwin and Charles somehow crossing over into their world. Given how season 15 ended, the ideal crossover could have the protagonists all meet up before Dean's tragic death in the series finale, perhaps establishing it as an adventure that happened in between previous seasons. It would be similar to how Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover had Tom Ellis' version of Lucifer Morningstar making a cameo during the five-part event, but taking place five years before his show began in that world.

Given the similar genres that Supernatural and Dead Boy Detectives are both based on, the idea of traveling between different universes is not far-fetched. It would also genuinely be fascinating to see what these two duos would be like together on screen. Hopefully, if Dead Boy Detectives season 2 happens, a crossover with Supernatural will happen in one way or another.

Dead Boy Detectives season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
