Adam Scott shares a candid response on the chances of a Parks and Recreation reboot. Created by The Office's Greg Daniels and Michael Schur, NBC's other mockumentary sitcom followed the employees of the eponymous department in the fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana. The Parks and Recreation cast and characters include Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope, Aziz Ansari as Tom Haverford, Nick Offerman as Ron Swanson, Aubrey Plaza as April Ludgate, Chris Pratt as Andy Dwyer, and Adam Scott as Ben Wyatt.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Adam Scott shared a candid response on the chances of a Parks and Recreation reboot. The Ben Wyatt actor says the decision to reboot the series lies with Amy Poehler and creators Michael Schur and Greg Daniels. Scott also discussed the special reunion episode they filmed during the pandemic. Read his full comments below:
Party Down was super fun, and I got to have a hand in sort of one of the five or six of us who kind of got to push that boulder up the hill and it was just such a blast. Parks and Rec is a completely [different thing] with Mike [Schur] and Amy and Greg and all of those wonderful people’s decision, and if they would ever be interested in doing something like that, it would be up to them. But I mean, I would go get a sandwich with all of those people. I wouldn’t have to be shooting the show. I just love all of ’em so much. I mean, the show itself sort of had a real ending. We did do something over the pandemic where we all got back together and made an episode [to raise money for Feeding America]. I don’t know if there would ever be any more, but I mean, I really don’t know. I love the show and love all the people. It’s always fun seeing any of them. I haven’t seen the show in a long time just because I miss it and I feel like it would be sad to watch it, but it’s just such a lovely show and lovely group of people.
Why A Parks & Recreation Reboot Shouldn't Happen
Close
Even though some who were involved with the show, such as Amy Poehler, have expressed interest in a revival, Parks and Recreation is one show that probably shouldn't be rebooted. Although season 1 struggled to find its footing, Parks and Recreation eventually evolved into one of the best TV shows of the 2010s. Though revivals and reunions are currently a common trend, a reboot would risk ruining the show's legacy, as well as the perfect Parks and Recreation ending.
Aired in 2015, the Parks and Recreation finale, titled "One Last Ride," was widely praised as one of the best in recent memory. The finale effectively tied up loose ends for each of its main characters, while still maintaining the show's signature humor. In the final episode, each character's future was depicted through flash-forwards, offering audiences a glimpse of what lay ahead. The Parks and Recreation reunion episode, which Adam Scott mentions, was also able to build on the ending without altering its integrity.
Whether or not a proper Parks and Recreation reboot happens remains to be seen. In 2019, Michael Schur said he was open to the idea of a reboot, but emphasized the need for a compelling reason and a unanimous agreement among the cast, suggesting he is well aware of the risks and lack of necessity. Greg Daniels is currently working on The Office reboot with a new cast and characters, so Parks and Recreation could one day be rebooted in a similar manner.
Parks and Recreation is streaming on Peacock.
