The Bachelor's Maria Georgas Finally Reveals If She Turned Down The Bachelorette (Spoilers)

Summary Maria was asked to be The Bachelorette but realized she wasn't ready to commit to the role.

Maria believes Bachelorette Jenn is prepared for the journey, which made her feel this is not her time.

Maria felt she made the best decision for her and Bachelor Nation in opting out.

The Bachelor fan favorite contestant Maria Georgas was a shoo-in for The Bachelorette, and she’s finally sharing whether or not she was offered the role and turned it down, or if it didn’t come her way at all. Canadian-born Maria joined The Bachelor season 28 in hopes that she’d win the heart of Joey Graziadei, but didn’t anticipate that her time on the series would bring her an influx of Bachelor Nation support. After her elimination, Maria’s fans felt she would make the most interesting Bachelorette for the upcoming season. When Jenn Tran was named the lead, viewers were shocked.

“The answer is yes - it was mine until I said it wasn’t”

In a TikTok from her appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Maria revealed that she was asked to be The Bachelorette for the upcoming season. “If I’m going to be in this world, I have to be honest, especially with the people who have supported me. The answer is yes - it was mine until I said it wasn’t, to the point that I was doing fittings,” Maria revealed. She shared that though she was invested in the opportunity, she realized that she wasn’t happy in the hustle and bustle of the process.

“When everyone around me was so supportive of me being in this position…I took a second and was like, ‘why am I not happy’?” She shared that she “didn’t want to waste anyone’s time”, if she didn’t feel ready to be the lead of her own season. “I was so anxious throughout the whole [Bachelor process],” Maria shared, explaining, “I wasn’t comfortable. I wasn’t mentally prepared.”

Should Maria Have Given Up The Bachelorette Role?

While Maria shared that she wasn’t ready to take on the pressure of being the lead, she was fairly far into the process of becoming the next Bachelorette when she decided she wanted to step back. Maria explained that she felt Jenn was vastly more “ready” for the experience, as she’d spoken about wanting to become The Bachelorette in the past. “She is the most perfect Bachelorette in my eyes, like, I couldn’t think of anyone better to do this - and that was enough for me to kind of say, this is not my time,” Maria explained about her friend.

Though Maria appears to believe she was right in stepping back from The Bachelorette season 21, was it the correct decision? Throughout Maria’s time on The Bachelor, her biggest hurdle was being able to open up wholeheartedly to Joey. Her lack of communication and connection led to her elimination. If Maria ultimately felt she wasn’t in a place where she could provide a safe space for her theoretical contestants to open up to her, it was likely the best choice for her to remove herself from the equation. Though sad, Maria made the best choice for herself and Bachelor Nation.

With Maria’s revelation out in the open, Bachelor Nation has to reconcile with the fact that though many of them wanted Maria to be the lead, she opted out of the role herself. Though some were furious with ABC for making the decision not to move forward with Maria, her transparency in sharing her experience should allow some to feel soothed that she did have the chance but didn’t go through with it. Maria is supporting Jenn in her journey after The Bachelor, and likely wants to see those who support her doing the same as the series gets started.

The Bachelor is available to stream on Hulu.
