Tammy and Amy have never loved exercise, but one activity they both enjoy is swimming. The DiscoveryPlusUK Instagram account posted a clip from 1000-lb Sisters season 1. In the clip, Amy and Tammy head to a local pool to get some exercise. They join a group of elderly women during a geriatric exercise class. In the clip, Amy wore a pink two-piece bikini, while Tammy wore a large, flowing purple swim top and leggings.

Tammy was especially fond of swimming, as being in the water made her feel weightless. Or, as Tammy said during the TLC swimming clip, "apparently, fat floats." One of the things fans love about the 1000-lb Sisters season 5 stars is that they don't take themselves too seriously, and they're willing to laugh at themselves. The sisters have a great time swimming with the older women.

Even when Tammy struggled the most during her weight-loss journey, she always found joy and comfort in going for a simple swim.

Since losing weight, Tammy has newfound confidence and has enjoyed experimenting with fashion. In April 2024, Tammy went on a girls' trip that landed her poolside, and she donned a fun mermaid print bathing suit for the occasion. Tammy's best friend Haley Michelle posted a photo of herself and Tammy lounging at the pool on Instagram, with the caption, "Proud of you #tammyslatonweightloss." The photo is astonishing when compared to her pre-weight-loss trips to the pool. Back then, the 1000-lb Sisters star needed help to get into a swimming pool, let alone swim in one.

Now, a dramatically slimmed down Tammy is able to lounge care-free in the sun with her friend.

1000-lb Sisters fans took to the comment section with their thoughts. "Thank you for beeing [sic] an inspiration on my weight loss journey tammy," wrote one person. "I struggled a little recently seeing your fotos [sic] gives me a new boost" they added. One of the unique things about the show is how inspirational the Slatons are to so many people who struggle with their weight. Seeing how far Tammy has come, despite her failures, helps motivate her followers.

During 1000-lb Sisters season 2, Tammy talked about how she loved swimming because it made her feel like a mermaid, so wearing a mermaid swimsuit has symbolic significance.

Like all reality shows, 1000-lb Sisters films in the real world, so they often run into fans while filming. In June 2023, a random TikTok account going by mamatgar50 came across a 1000-lb Sisters film crew and posted some footage at TikTok. In the clip, a film crew follows several Slatons at the beach in Florida. When the woman behind the camera asks a producer what's filming, the producer lies and says it's a tourism documentary.

The fan keeps filming, and Amy is instantly recognizable in the video, as is her now ex-husband, Michael Halterman.

After four years of marriage and two children together, Amy and Michael divorced. The couple's separation was a big shock because Michael had been a constant on 1000-lb Sisters. He was always by Amy's side and was a big help to Tammy. Whenever they went anywhere together, it was Michael who had to physically push Tammy's wheelchair. He became a fan favorite because he did it all without complaint. The couple always seemed happy, but things changed soon after their two sons, Gage and Glenn Halterman, were born.

Their problems were revealed during 1000-lb Sisters season 5, and Michael filed for divorce from Amy in March 2023.

Amy and Tammy aren't the only members of the Slaton family who have lost weight over the years. Their step-brother, Chris Combs, weighed 450 pounds when 1000-lb Sisters premiered, but he has since shed 150 pounds. He did it because he wanted to be healthy enough to be around for his family. He also had a daughter who was starting to struggle with her own weight issues, and he wanted to be a good role model for her.

Chris focused on diet, exercise, and bariatric surgery, and lost an extraordinary amount of weight.

Not to be left out, Amy and Tammy's other sisters, Amanda Halterman and Misty Slaton Wentworth, had bariatric surgery on the same day, in March 2023. Another member of the Slaton clan, Chris's wife, Brittany Combs, has also expressed interest in having weight-loss surgery eventually. 1000-lb Sisters season 6 is sure to follow the Slatons as they continue to pursue their weight-loss goals.
