Known to many for his roles in The Tick and A Series of Unfortunate Events, Patrick Warburton is a predominantly comedic actor who first got his big break playing David Puddy in Seinfeld. A recurring character from season 6 onwards, Puddy was the on-again-off-again boyfriend of Julia Louis-Dreyfus's Elaine Benes. An airhead mechanic turned car salesman and born-again Christian, Puddy's simple nature and frequent break-ups with Elaine were recurring jokes during Seinfeld's later seasons. However, Warburton's partnership with Jerry Seinfeld wasn't limited solely to the latter's sitcom.
Following Seinfeld's conclusion. Warburton made several other appearances in Seinfeld-led projects. He voiced the character of Ken, the main antagonist in 2007's Bee Movie, an animated film written by, produced by, and starring Seinfeld. Prior to this, Warburton appeared with Seinfeld in a series of commercials titled The Adventures of Seinfeld and Superman, where he provided the voice of Superman himself. Warburton's most recent team-up with Seinfeld in Unfrosted, though somewhat of a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, is, nevertheless, a pleasing addition to the duo's joint repertoire.
Unfrosted Missed A Chance To Pay Off Patrick Warburton's Most Famous Seinfeld Episode
It Would've Been A Neat Callback
While Warburton's cameo in Unfrosted was certainly a nice surprise for those not expecting it, it's hard not to feel like Seinfeld and the movie's other writers missed a trick. One of Warburton's best Seinfeld episodes is season 6's "The Face Painter", which sees Seinfeld and the gang discovering that David Puddy is a New Jersey Devils fan who goes hard on his support for the team. He paints his face like a devil and encourages the others to join him in spelling out the word 'DEVILS' on their chests. Needless to say, this was a turn-off for Elaine.
Patrick Warburton played David Puddy in eleven episodes of Seinfeld.
The episode, like many Seinfeld stories, is a classic that still holds up well today. Puddy's overly enthusiastic support for the New Jersey Devils made him an unofficial mascot for the team. Given that Unfrosted features several mascots, albeit mostly breakfast food-related ones, there was certainly an opportunity for Warburton to don the New Jersey Devils outfit and reprise his role as Puddy. It might have seemed a bit silly or even random, but given the zany nature of Unfrosted, which features a cameo by Jon Hamm as Mad Men's Don Draper, among others, it probably would've worked.
