New Dora The Explorer Movie Announcement Is A Mistake 5 Years After $120 Million Hit
Summary The upcoming live-action Dora the Explorer movie, Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado, will be released exclusively to stream on Paramount+.
The first live-action Dora the Explorer movie, Dora and the Lost City Of Gold, was released in theaters in 2019 and made $120.5 million at the box office.
Releasing the new live-action Dora movie exclusively on Paramount+ is a questionable move given the box office success of the first live-action movie.
The newest live-action Dora the Explorer movie is already making one big mistake based on the Nickelodeon franchise's 2019 box office hit. Per The Hollywood Reporter, a new live-action film adaptation of the beloved animated Nickelodeon series, Dora the Explorer, is in development under the working title, Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado. The film will follow Dora, played by You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah star Samantha Lorraine, and her cousin Diego as they search through the Amazon Rainforest for the titular ancient treasure with their new friends.
Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado will be the second live-action Dora the Explorer movie. In 2019, Dora and the Lost City Of Gold was released featuring Isabela Merced as Dora, after she previously voiced Dora's friend Kate in Dora and Friends: Into the City!, a spinoff series to the original animated show. The new installment appears to be a standalone film as opposed to a sequel to the first movie, but one major detail from the announcement of Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado seems like a big mistake after Dora and the Lost City Of Gold.

Dora The Explorer's New Movie Will Release Exclusively On Streaming
Dora Will Be A Paramount+ Exclusive
Though no official release date has been announced at this time, THR reports that Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado will be released exclusively on Paramount's streaming platform, Paramount+. This will be the second installment in the Dora the Explorer franchise to be released exclusively on Paramount+. On April 12, 2024, a reboot of the original animated series premiered on the platform, simply called Dora, which was renewed for season 2 only 12 days later.
It was announced on February 24, 2021, that a live-action Dora the Explorer TV series was in development for Paramount+, but this has yet to come to fruition.
Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado's release plan differs from Dora and the Lost City Of Gold, which premiered in theaters on August 9, 2019. On that same day, the very last episode of the original Dora the Explorer show aired on Nickelodeon, giving the live-action movie's release date extra significance. Reviews for Dora and the Lost City Of Gold were generally positive, highlighting that the movie managed to capture the spirit of the animated source material.
Given the commercial success of the first live-action movie's theatrical release, it seems like a mistake to release Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado exclusively on Paramount+.

Truthfully, Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado's release plan is a little baffling. Had the last live-action Dora the Explorer movie bombed or even just underperformed at the box office, it would make sense for Paramount to keep the new live-action movie a streaming exclusive. However, Dora and the Lost City Of Gold grossed $120.5 million worldwide at the box office on a budget of $49 million (via Box Office Mojo). Given the commercial success of the first live-action movie's theatrical release, it seems like a mistake to release Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado exclusively on Paramount+.
