In April, the 1000-lb Sisters star went on a girls' trip that landed her poolside, and she donned a fun mermaid print bathing suit for the occasion. Tammy's best friend, Haley Michelle, posted a photo of Tammy posing with her girls on Instagram. Tammy has always loved to swim. Even at her heaviest, swimming was one of the rare physical activities Tammy took part in.

Leaving her home was a big production that required a wheelchair, ramp, specialty van, and other items, including a strong person to wheel her around. After losing weight, Tammy's entire life changed. With her newfound mobility and independence, she seems determined to live a more active lifestyle, wanting to explore the world that was restricted to her.

Since weight loss surgery, Tammy has been living her best life. She has been enjoying her newfound freedom and celebrating every new milestone, like joining her family for a vacation to Florida. Tammy went on her first airplane ride and didn't even need a second seat. In a 1000-lb Sisters scene posted to YouTube by TLC, she wore her mermaid bathing suit to the beach. She had never been to the beach before, and she was too scared to walk on the sand. Her brother, Chris Combs, acquired a specialty wheelchair with large plastic wheels meant to roll on sand.

Tammy had always been fond of swimming, as being in the water made her feel weightless. As Tammy said during an episode from 1000-lb Sisters season 1, "Apparently, fat floats." During the episode, Amy and Tammy head to a local pool for exercise. They joined a group of senior women during an exercise class. In the clip, Tammy wore a large, flowing purple swim top and leggings, trying to avoid showing any skin.

These days, Tammy is far more willing to wear bathing suits that show off a little more skin.

After Tammy's bariatric surgery, but before she lost all the weight, Tammy posted a TikTok of herself wearing a green bathing suit, which appeared in OK Magazine. In the photo, Tammy is wearing a green bathing suit with a white floral print. In the image, Tammy is still wearing her oxygen tube, as she still needed it for a while after her surgery.

Tammy used to be known for being overweight, but now she's known for her successful weight-loss journey over the last five years. The road hasn't always been easy for Tammy, but she never gave up hope or stopped fighting for her life. Fortunately, she was determined and had the support of her family, especially her sister, Amy. Like Tammy, Amy has also struggled with her weight. Amy lost 125 pounds since having weight loss surgery and loves hitting the beach in a bathing suit.

Not to be left out, other members of the Slaton family have gotten in on the weight loss fun. Amy and Tammy's brother Chris lost 150 pounds after weight loss surgery. Their other sisters, Amanda Halterman and Misty Wentworth, had bariatric surgery on the same day, in March 2023. All the Slaton siblings were seen frolicking on the beach during their Florida family vacation, truly living their best lives.
