With the sci-fi series returning with a two-episode premiere, episode 2 "The Devil's Chord" threw the Time Lord and new companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) into a battle for music itself against the powerful Maestro. While Maestro is an all-new villain for the series, they have deeper ties to a classic villain.

Following Doctor Who season 14's two-episode premiere, Davies unveiled on Doctor Who: Unleashed that audiences have only seen the tip of the new villain's hierarchy. Despite their immense power, the showrunner confirmed that Maestro and the Toymaker weren't even the most powerful beings of the pantheon. Check out Davies' explanation below:

Keeping going with this fantastical strand of the pantheon of gods, some of us call them the Gods of Chaos, which is a great title, I don’t know if its official, but I like it. It’s a chance, I think, introducing these gods, it starts to link them together, and Maestro is actually the child of The Toymaker. The Toymaker seems to be the supreme being of this pantheon. He’s not. There’s plenty of discoveries to come with that.
