Fallout Fan Discovers Massive Untapped Potential For The Setting Of Next Game

Summary Southeast America offers untapped potential for the next Fallout game, with real-world locations like NASA sites and military installations.

Previous canceled plans for a Fallout game set in Florida included mutant rainforests and oppressive factions, leading to story elements in later games.

Despite Fallout games historically taking place in different regions, the franchise has yet to explore Southeast America officially, leaving room for new mutations and stories.

A Fallout fan has suggested a setting for the next game that has "unlimited potential". Recently, Bethesda's Todd Howard stated that the series wouldn't leave America, despite there being plenty of fan curiosity surrounding the state of the rest of the planet after the bombs fell. Therefore, fans have been wondering where in the United States the series could go next.

Redditor Uncle-Herb suggested that the series could move to the Southeast of the country, suggesting Louisiana or Florida specifically. The reason behind this suggestion was that Bethesda could pull more from real-world environments, much as it did with the rest of the series. For example, Fallout 4's Sanctuary Hills community is inspired by the real Lustron Houses, which were quickly assembled and designed for soldiers returning from World War 2.

In an upcoming Fallout game set in the Southeast, Bethesda could include more of the actual Military installations that have housed nuclear weapons, as well as various NASA sites, in the Commonwealth. This would be extremely in keeping with the franchise's narrative while also tying back into some real-world lore surrounding the location.

A Canceled Fallout Game Was Due To Take Place In Southeast America

An Irradiated G.E.C.K. Would Have Turned Florida Into A Mutant Hellhole

So far, the Fallout series has yet to cover Southeast America, having taken place across the following locations:

Title In-Game Location Real-World Settings Fallout New California California, Oregon, Nevada, and Mexico Fallout 2 New California Extends the map of Fallout 1 to include parts of Oregon and Northern Nevada. Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel American Midwest Chicago, Missouri, Kansas, and Colorado. Fallout 3 Capital Wasteland Washington, DC. Fallout: New Vegas Mojave Wasteland Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and part of California Fallout 4 The Commonwealth New England and Boston. Fallout 76 Appalachia West Virginia.

However, there was a time when the planned Fallout Tactics 2 was going to venture to Florida with a story that saw a Garden of Eden Creation Kit (G.E.C.K.) transforming the state into a mutant rainforest that would prey upon animal life and using them as carriers or fertilizer to spread its fungal seed. Players would have been sent on a mission to discover the source and put an end to the spreading mutation and reclaim the wasteland.

After its prominent appearance in the first Fallout Tactics, the Brotherhood of Steel would have appeared in Fallout Tactics 2, albeit as an even more fascist and oppressive faction.

Unfortunately, Fallout Tactics 2 was canceled in December 2001, citing poor sales of the first Fallout Tactics game. Elements from this concept were re-used in later Fallout titles, however, with the change of vegetation in Fallout 76's massive forest location, and mutant alligators called Gatorclaws appearing in Fallout 4's Nuka-World. However, much like the mod Fallout London by Team FOLON, there is a full DLC-sized mod due to visit the Southeast that's available to download now on PC and Xbox called Fallout Miami.

Hopefully, Bethesda will look to revisit this section of America in a future title, as there is certainly plenty of potential for mutations, locations, and stories. It's unclear when players will get their hands on a new Fallout title, but Todd Howard has shared that some projects are in the works, and that Xbox is keen to find a way to revisit the series sooner rather than later following its recent resurgence after the release of the acclaimed Amazon Prime TV show.
