Bodkin: Why Fiona Didn't Want Seamus Knowing Sean Was His Son

Summary Bodkin, a mystery series, explores a captivating story without being based on true events.

Seamus, a central character, hides his violent past and struggles with fatherhood.

Sean, unaware of his true parentage, rejects the idea of Seamus as his father.

Despite Seamus being deeply in love with Fiona in Bodkin, she did not want him to know that he was Sean's father. Netflix's newest mystery series follows a podcaster, a researcher, and an investigative journalist as they venture into an idyllic Irish town to unravel a mystery. One of the reasons that Bodkin has received great reviews and is such a captivating show is because it seems like it is based on real life. However, Bodkin is not actually based on a true story.

At the center of the mystery is Seamus Gallagher. It's understood in Bodkin that Seamus is a former smuggler who used to go by Jack McFadden aka "The Badger" until he got on the wrong side of dangerous people and had to go into hiding. While hiding out in Bodkin, Seamus wound up falling for Fiona. Fiona became pregnant with his child, but chose to keep this information from Seamus. While this was a questionable decision, the character had her motivations for hiding this from him.

Seamus Showed Extremely Violent Tendencies Throughout Bodkin

When Seamus was first introduced in Bodkin, he seemed like a genuinely good person who only wanted to protect the peace in the idyllic small Irish town. However, Seamus wasn't as innocent as he seemed. Throughout Bodkin, Seamus showed he had a quick temper and violent tendencies. There wasn't a problem Seamus couldn't solve with a gun or a fist. Not only did Seamus threaten Dove, but he stapled Frank's face, beat up Gilbert, and almost killed everyone at the Samhain festival.

In the season finale of Bodkin, Seamus finally finds out that Sean is his son. Seamus was overjoyed with the news, but instead of the occasion being a happy one, it ended in a gunfight with Sean accidentally losing his thumb and Seamus kidnapping Gilbert. The fact that Seamus might have changed his name but was the same old violent Jack McFadden was the main reason Fiona had tried to run away without informing him that she was pregnant with his child. However, her plan to keep Sean safe from Seamus did not work, seeing as Sean still ended up getting wrapped up with his father.

Why Sean Refused To Believe Seamus Was His Father

Sean had a completely different reaction to finding out that Seamus was his dad. Instead of being happy with finally meeting his birth father, Sean did not believe Seamus and Fiona were his parents. Given that Sean had been raised by Edna who had told him she had adopted him from Romania, Sean's reaction to the news was not surprising. After all, Edna was the only parent Sean had ever known.

Further, Sean had built his identity on being Romanian, as his dream was to move to Romania and start a life there. With that in mind, it's easy to see why Seamus being his father was not welcome news. Not only that, but Seamus and Sean were also business partners. Sean was aware of Seamus' violent tendencies and illegal dealings, making him less receptive to the idea of such a person being his father in Bodkin.
