Star Wars Has Secretly Set Up The Perfect Way To Bring Boba Fett Back Fett Back, 3 Years After His Show's Failure

Star Wars has subtly set up the perfect way to redeem Boba Fett three years after his series failed, thanks to The Bad Batch. Although The Book of Boba Fett started strong, it certainly divided fans by its end due to struggles with its overall execution. However, there is a way to redeem Boba Fett in future Star Wars projects and to keep him involved in the ongoing conflict between the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant.

The Book of Boba Fett began streaming at the end of 2021, starring Temura Morrison as the classic bounty hunter and Ming-Na Wen as his right-hand woman Fennec Shand. However, there are several reasons the show is widely considered to be a failure compared to other Star Wars shows. That said, Star Wars may be setting up the means to give Boba Fett a much-needed second chance as one of their most popular characters.

The Book of Boba Fett Was Controversial For A Few Reasons

A Challenging Lack Of Focus And Unwillingness To Commit

One of the biggest problems The Book of Boba Fett had was its overall lack of focus. Taking place after the titular bounty hunter helped Din Djarin save Grogu from the Imperial Remnant in The Mandalorian season 2, the show follows Fett as he seeks to take over the late Jabba the Hutt's role as daimyo of Mos Espa, looking to become the next big crime lord. However, the show also jumps back to reveal how Boba survived Return of the Jedi's Sarlacc and his time with a tribe of Tusken Raiders, and how he met Fennec Shand.

While the flashbacks aren't bad, they took away from the present conflict, especially considering that 2 episodes were primarily dedicated to Pedro Pascal's Din Djarin and his reunion with Grogu, rather than keeping the focus on its primary character. It also felt like there was an unwillingness to commit on Lucasfilm's part regarding Boba Fett's actual characterization as a ruthless crime lord or even an anti-hero who would do good so long as it aligned with his own self-interest. Instead, The Book of Boba Fett strangely leaves Boba more as a benevolent mayor rather than the fearsome daimyo many expected and were hoping for.

Boba Fett Is Still An Incredibly Popular Star Wars Character

People Still Want To See Boba Fett Make A Comeback

Even though The Book of Boba Fett largely failed, there were still some positives such as Boba having a role and existence in the New Republic Era, and forging a true alliance with Din Djarin that can certainly be revisited in the future. For all of its issues, The Book of Boba Fett has by no means turned off audiences from wanting to see more of Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett (provided he acts more like the infamous bounty hunter he once was).

Ultimately, Boba Fett is still one of Star Wars's most popular characters, if only for his iconic helmet and armor that inspired an entire warrior race and culture. There is no Din Djarin and Mandalorian show without Boba Fett and his creation for The Empire Strikes Back, the true godfather of the Mandalorians and their inception in the Star Wars canon. To that end, there are still ways Boba Fett can return to the wider Star Wars galaxy to hopefully reclaim some of that legacy, redeeming himself following his series that was ultimately more of a disservice to his character than not.

How The Bad Batch Set Up A Future Boba Fett Return

Project Necromancer Could Force Boba To Leave Tatooine

An intriguing way to get Boba Fett back into the mix of Star Wars' ongoing New Republic projects could be a connection to his past. Created by Kaminoan cloning engineers to be a perfect and unaltered genetic replica of Jango Fett, Boba was part of the original bounty hunter's payment to serve as the Republic Army's host template, effectively granting him a son who could continue his legacy. However, the first season of The Bad Batch confirms that Boba was first identified by the Kaminoans with the codename "Alpha".

Boba's original name is significant with consideration to "Omega", a female clone created by Nala Se. Having also been a genetically perfect and rare unaltered clone, this technically means that Boba and Omega could be considered siblings more than any of Jango's other clones created for the Republic. Furthermore, The Bad Batch season 3 revealed that Omega's unique blood and its rare ability to hold a high M-count meant she was perfect for the Empire's Project Necromancer as they attempted to create a viable and Force-sensitive clone body for the Emperor to transfer his essence into in the events of his death.

Assuming Omega's unique blood is the result of her being a more pure genetic replica than all the other clone subjects the Empire had been experimenting on, one has to wonder if Boba Fett himself shares the same unique properties in his blood as well. Given enough time, one could imagine that the Empire's Advanced Science Division's Doctor Royce Hemlock might have theorized the same during the reign of the Empire, and that Boba himself could have easily found himself targeted for experimentation right alongside his secret sister.

However, The Bad Batch's series finale saw Project Necromancer being dealt a very serious blow following Hemlock's death, the destruction of the Mount Tantiss facility, and the loss of vast amounts of the project's data. As a result, Project Necromancer wouldn't be picked up until years later following Palpatine's death by the Imperial Remnant. As such, perhaps Boba may finally find himself being targeted in future Star Wars projects, something that could perhaps give him a second chance at having a compelling story that's more in line with audience hopes and expectations.

Omega Is A Perfect Genetic Clone (Just Like Boba)

The Bad Batch finale does feature a grown-up Omega joining the Rebellion's fight against the Empire. As such, it would be fascinating to see her encounter her brother one day. A meeting between Boba Fett and Omega would be huge, especially if they find themselves in the sights of the Imperial Remnant who have picked up Project Necromancer once more during the New Republic Era. At the very least, the recently concluded Bad Batch does provide a compelling means to logically get Boba Fett back into the mix and hopefully help redeem the former bounty hunter in Star Wars' future.
