The Star Sapphire Central Power Battery blows up, leaving the Zamarons completely powerless. Thaaros sends his Ring Hunters after the Zamarons and orders them to destroy every Star Sapphire ring on the planet to eliminate any influence they have on the universe.

Green Lantern's Rivals the Star Sapphires Have Been Wiped Out

Shortly after the United Planets assumed control of the Green Lantern Corps, strange occurrences began happening across the galaxy. Several Central Power Batteries connected to the Emotional Spectrum began exploding, taking out entire organizations such as the Red Lanterns or the Sinestro Corps. Unbeknownst to Hal Jordan, who had retired and returned to Earth, the person behind these attacks was the Corps' de facto leader, Lord Premier Thaaros. Thaaros secretly had these other Lanterns Corps eliminated to allow his United Planets Lanterns the ability to channel other lights and access the power of the mysterious Source Lantern.

The Star Sapphires are one of Green Lantern's oldest enemies and an integral part of the Emotional Spectrum. But like Blue and Orange Lights, the Violet Light of Love has fallen, making the Green Lantern Corps the only light-wielders in the DC Universe (assuming the Indigo Tribe has also fallen). While the Star Sapphires have a tense history with the Green Lanterns, the light they use is a crucial and necessary part of the Emotional Spectrum's stability. In Thaaros' mad quest to eliminate the rival factions, he could be putting the DC Universe in far more danger than he realizes.

Losing Star Sapphires Could Doom the DC Universe

Thaaros is trying to establish unilateral control on the Emotional Spectrum by destroying the other factions and harnessing their power for the United Planets. But this could backfire as the lights are connected to life itself. Destroying or altering these lights on a grand scale is no doubt going to have major ramifications, especially now that Thaaros has eliminated one of the last ones standing. It's hard to say what the consequences of destroying the Star Sapphires will be, but this huge change to the Green Lantern mythos is almost certainly going to negatively impact the DC Universe.
