Genshin Impact Natlan Leaks Point To An Exciting Change For The New Region

Summary Natlan in Genshin Impact is known as the Nation of Pyro ruled by dragons integrated into society.

Natlan's design will allegedly focus more on story-telling elements rather than open-world exploration.

The leaked information on Natlan's design hints at a smaller, more condensed region incentivizing narrative exploration.

A batch of new leaks about Natlan in Genshin Impact has been shared and they hint at what may be an exciting update for the new region. Natlan has already been confirmed as the next stop on the Traveler’s journey through Teyvat, as they try to reconnect with their long-gone sibling. The nation had previously been mentioned in the title’s roadmap back in 2020 but has since been mentioned within the game itself. During the conclusion of the main campaign missions set in Fontaine, the Hydro Sovereign Neuvillette directed the Traveler and Paimon toward Natlan in Genshin Impact.

This article contains a few spoilers about the story, including events in Fontaine and speculation about the next region.

Natlan is known to be the Nation of Pyro in Teyvat, as confirmed by the aforementioned conversation with Neuvillette. The character also reveals that Natlan is a Nation of dragons, not unlike the Vishaps of Teyvat, but that these creatures have integrated part of the society therein. Natlan is ruled by the principle of War, and it is said that several tribes constantly fight each other and that the Fatui Harbinger known as Capitano invested interest in these wars. Neuvillette said the Captain has thrown his hat in the ring for what will likely decide Natlan’s future in Genshin Impact.

Natlan Is Rumored To Be More Focused On Story In Genshin Impact

Leaks Compare Nation’s Design To Remuria

The new leaks about Natlan are now providing information that may be pertinent to how the Nation’s map will be designed. According to details provided by the leaker known as Uncle Teyvat on their account on X (formerly known as Twitter), the reigning philosophy behind Natlan’s map design will be centered around the story. The leaker mentions that a glimpse of that was already seen with the World Quests added in Genshin Impact 4.6, more specifically, those that are centered around Remuria. The leaker also mentions, in that sense, that Natlan’s design will be unlike Sumeru.

Uncle Teyvat also says that, with Natlan, the game will feature a more “sophisticated performance” that extends beyond animation, but it is uncertain exactly what that entails. That could be richer environments or even more elaborate in-game cutscenes.

What Natlan’s Leaked Design Style Means For Genshin Impact

Game Steers Away From Areas Like Sumeru

In another piece of information shared by Uncle Teyvat on X in response to their original post, the leaker cites that this will match HoYoverse’s own announcement about hardware requirements and graphic updates. They summarize that the game will steer further away from open-world exploration and drift closer to the game’s story-telling element, which they mention is, statistically, what the player base’s reference – they do not mention their source on that matter, however. This leak, however, could indicate exactly the direction that Natlan will take once it arrives in Genshin Impact later this year.

If the leaked information provided by Uncle Teyvat is accurate and the comparison to Remuria’s map design is reliable, then this allows for a better understanding of how Natlan could be shaped. One of the notable aspects of Remuria is that most of the areas in it are somewhat connected to the story.

Surely, it is still an open-world segment that allows for thorough exploration and contains many secrets and challenges, but a lot of the exploration around the area is incentivized by the main story, as players are required to move around most of Remuria in Genshin Impact.

“Natlan leaks should be taken with an extra degree of caution as its release is still, allegedly, a few months away.”

In direct contrast, using the leaker’s own example, Sumeru is a large region and only a portion of it is actually used in main quests. Sumeru is one of the largest nations available in the game and a lot of it is there to incentivize free open-world exploration.

However, the purpose that fuels exploration in Sumeru is not as attractive as that of Remuria, as not exploring Sumeru does not impede progress in the main story. If Natlan is making these two contrasts into an example and counterexample, respectively, players may see a smaller and more condensed Nation in Genshin Impact.

With a smaller area, Natlan could have most of its areas featured within the Archon Quests and World Quests, and that could be a way of incentivizing players to venture around without sidetracking too far away from the narrative. Similarly, they would not feel too discouraged after finishing the story and seeing the sheer size of the map they have yet to unlock.

Such a map design could also help in some other, less discussed aspects. While the Sumeru map is huge and rich, there are some portions of it that feel somewhat empty or excessively large in Genshin Impact.

This is especially true for the desert area of Sumeru, called the Great Red Sand. There are, indeed, many activities to do and mysteries to uncover, but the desert is arguably too big to the point that it is often exhausting to explore everything.

To a smaller degree, this is also true when considering the size of Sumeru’s forest biome. It is rich in most parts, but there are some areas that are either scarce and require too much exploration or too filled with things to do to the point that it is overwhelming.

It is very unlikely that Natlan will be small, per si, and it should still be a large Nation of Teyvat, but the leak indicates it will be more story-focused. As such, players could progress through the campaign and visit many landmarks, many of which could contain bits of the story and have a narrative purpose behind their very existence.

While small because of what it was built to do, Remuria is truly a perfect example. There are few areas that are not shown to players while going through the World Quest, and it was a major success for Genshin Impact.

For now, it is impossible to determine exactly how Natlan will be presented. Uncle Teyvat assures players in response to a user’s inquiry that it will continue to be an open-world zone, but that there will be more focus on the narrative, which could result in a smaller Nation compared to previous releases.

Natlan leaks should be taken with an extra degree of caution as its release is still, allegedly, a few months away, and a lot can still be changed before the Nation of Pyro arrives in Genshin Impact 5.0.
