Blood & Cheese impact changes Aegon's character, sparking a bloodthirsty attitude and affecting future conflicts.

Aegon II says, "I want revenge," in the new House of the Dragon season 2 trailer, hinting at a tragic event that will complicate fans' loyalties about the side they support. The HBO drama's first season saw events spiraling toward the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, dividing House of the Dragon's cast of characters into two factions: the Blacks and the Greens. The conflict reached a point of no return in the season 1 finale, with Aemond killing Lucerys Velaryon. Now, war is inevitable, and it will sweep across Westeros in the epic season 2.

House of the Dragon season 2 will premiere on HBO & Max on June 19th.

It's no secret that a majority of audiences have taken a liking to the Black faction, supporting Rhaenyra's right to rule over the despicable Aegon II and the Greens. Still, HBO has utilized the divided factions as part of their marketing, prompting fans to pick sides with their previous Black and Green trailers. An all-new House of the Dragon trailer reinforces this point, reminding book readers of a critical event that may have TV audiences second-guessing what side they want to root for. In George R.R. Martin's world, it's never that easy.

Nobody Can Fault Aegon For Wanting Revenge For Blood & Cheese In HOTD Season 2

Audiences Might See Aegon Differently After His Child Is Massacred

One of the most devastating upcoming House of the Dragon moments should happen early in season 2, with Daemon hiring assassins to avenge Lucerys Velaryon. Season 2, episode 1's title has been revealed as "A Son for a Son," hinting at the gruesome event to come. Hired assassins, Blood & Cheese, will be sent through underground tunnels into the Red Keep, brutally take Alicent and Helaena Targaryen hostage, and force the latter to choose which of her children she'd like to survive before murdering a baby in front of them. Needless to say, it's going to be tough to watch.

The trailer sees Aegon II's feelings about the war going forward, presumably after this moment, saying, "F*** dignity. I want revenge." No matter what one thinks about Aegon, his feelings after Blood & Cheese's assault are justified. Aegon may not seem like the most dedicated father, but it's such an atrocity that it will be hard not to sympathize with him. Helaena and Alicent are already the most likable characters on their side, and they'll receive even more support from audiences after what they go through.

Blood & Cheese Completely Changes Aegon In House Of The Dragon's War

Aegon Will Become Bloodthirsty And Reckless, Changing The Way The Greens Wage War

House of the Dragon season 1 saw Aegon as an apathetic young man, hesitant to become king or take on any responsibility at all, for that matter. After Blood & Cheese, however, audiences will see a new side to Aegon. He certainly won't transform into any sort of likable figure who treats his wife and children with any manner of respect, but instead, he develops a bloodlust for action and revenge against Rhaenyra and the Black faction. The event undoubtedly draws Aegon's attention to the war, prompting him to make hasty decisions.

Aegon isn't the most powerful House of the Dragon character despite his title, as his brother Aemond still rides a larger dragon, making him the more threatening of the pair. Aegon shouldn't be underestimated, though, as even though he's not a warrior, his dragon Sunfyre is quite the fighter. Not to mention, being the person making the final decisions for his side in the civil war is a dangerous platform, and the Blood & Cheese event should have a ripple effect on how the Greens conduct themselves, especially in season 2.

Blood & Cheese's Lasting Impact In HOTD Will Mirror Game Of Thrones' Red Wedding

Characters Will Be Driven By The Blood & Cheese Event For Seasons To Come

The Red Wedding is widely considered the most shocking moment in television history, transcending Game of Thrones and becoming a term used to describe a devastating backstab. In Game of Thrones, characters continued to discuss the Red Wedding long after it occurred and resulted in a multi-season revenge arc for Arya Stark. One of the most compelling parts of George R.R. Martin's universe is that such atrocities don't go forgotten, and the aftermath of plot twists and character deaths plays out for years.

The event itself should be unforgettable for TV fans

Blood & Cheese could be a similar event for House of the Dragon. Granted, it won't result in any significant character deaths, as audiences have barely seen Aegon's children. Still, it's going to drastically shape events and characters going forward, and the event itself should be unforgettable for TV fans. If it's handled similarly to how it's done in the books, it should be one of the most gruesome TV scenes ever, and HBO hasn't been known to pull any punches, especially on Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon.
