Lifelike Baldur's Gate 3 Alfira Cosplay Is So Realistic, It's Scary

Summary Ellevishh's Alfira cosplay impressed, but some found her unsettling, questioning its lifelike quality.

Alfira's fate in the game depends largely on players' choices.

Alfira might have been a potential companion based on unused code.

Alfira is arguably one of the most underrated NPCs in Baldur’s Gate 3. Initially found in the Emerald Grove, where she can teach the player character how to play an instrument, her number of appearances in a playthrough depends entirely on whether or not a player manages to keep her alive (or if they’ve picked the Dark Urge origin character). Like most underrated video game characters, Alfira also gets some of the best cosplay.

Reddit user ellevishh posted their Alfira cosplay online, and though it’s a pretty faithful recreation of the bard-in-training, there’s something about it that has some of the commenters a bit unsettled. Ellevishh impressively recreates Alfira’s horns, hair coloring, and outfit — but it seems to be the black and orange tiefling eyes that have some viewers a bit unsettled by it.

“Good cosplay, but your face and even your eyes just scream to me unnatural beyond reason. Like i am looking at some possessed doll, [rather than] a person,” user Terentas_Strog commented on the post. Although some expressed their fear for her eyes, others found the cosplay to be superb, with one user stating, "I legitimately thought there was no way this could be real. Top notch work!" Others called it “uncanny valley” or that her face looked “like a mask,” but couldn’t deny the attention to detail in the cosplay was magnificent.

Some Players Suspect Alfira Was A Potential Companion For Baldur’s Gate 3

There’s Unused Code For Alfira’s Approval Rating

Players encounter Alfira frequently on their journey through all three acts — but some players have found evidence that suggests the bard may have initially been a companion character. Eagle-eyed players (with the help of mods) have found Alfira mentioned in the code as a companion to either gain or lose points for an approval rating despite the player not being able to add her to their party at this time.

Reddit user Jack_Grim101 shared a photo of the unused code, which popped up when telling Mayrina to let her husband go. This dialogue option adds to every potential companion’s approval rating — and Alfira’s name is tacked on at the end. There are only a handful of dialogue options that affect Alfira’s nonexistent approval rating, but it has players wondering if the developer has thought about making her a companion instead.

The closest Alfira comes to being a companion is when she stops by the party’s camp if a player chooses the Dark Urge as their character. The bard will visit the player character’s camp, asking to join on their adventure, but her time with the party doesn’t last long. While everyone is asleep, the player will act on their previous impulse to kill her, leaving them with the option to either hide her body or be honest about her death the next morning.

As there doesn’t seem to be a way to get around killing Alfira at camp, it’s peculiar that there are approval options for her built into the game. Though plenty have said they would love to see her be added as a companion to Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios has remained mum about potentially adding her to the party. For now, players not play as the Dark Urge will have to focus on keeping her alive if they want her to stick around.
