Red Dead Redemption 2 New Gunfight Mode Makes Combat Even More Realistic

Red Dead Redemption 2 New Gunfight Mode Makes Combat Even More Realistic

Summary The "Immersive Firefights" mod in Red Dead Redemption 2 makes gunfights more challenging and realistic for players seeking a tougher gaming experience.

The mod slows reload speed, increases firearm damage, and adjusts ammo capacities for historical accuracy.

Removing "arcadey" shooting mechanics in RDR 2 enhances realism but may frustrate players.

Red Dead Redemption 2 players looking to make the game a little more punishing are in luck because a new mod aims to make every gunfight as realistic and challenging as possible. Through Arthur Morgan's adventures with Dutch Van Der Linde and his crew, the outlaw will become involved in plenty of shoot-outs, either with fellow criminals and bandits or the police trying to bring order to the Wild West. The game's combat is undoubtedly well executed with weapons having a weight and power behind their shots but, admittedly, it does sometimes feel like Arthur is a little impervious.

Fortunately, that problem can now be solved thanks to Nexus Mods user cncite who shared their "Immersive Firefights" mod that strives to make guns behave much more realistically and, in turn, make RDR 2 much harder. Once installed, the mod will significantly slows the reload speed of all weapons, and firearm damage is massively increased with larger guns dealing far more damage. A high-caliber rifle will likely kill an enemy (or Arthur) with a single shot whereas a smaller pistol, if it misses a vital body part, will need multiple rounds to drop its target.

Red Dead 2 Just Became More Lethal

Arthur and Co. Get Into Plenty Of Scraps

The "Immersive Firefights" mod doesn't just focus on damage and speed as it aims to make RDR 2's guns more historically accurate by adjusting ammo capacities and removing explosive ammo altogether given that its incendiary rounds were only invented in 1916, several years after the game's story concludes. Additionally, every gun has had its accuracy reduced and, to make the experience smoother and "more satisfying," recoil shake has been removed. Installing the mod will no doubt put veteran players to the test as they have to grapple with entirely new physics and damage distributions.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is already known as one of the most realistic open-world games on the market so removing the "arcadey" shooting mechanics certainly goes a long to make it feel even more authentic. Having said that, it could also be incredibly frustrating, especially when it comes to weapons not hitting the targets they should. Given how slow the gameplay can be at times, immersive gunfights may grind the pace to a standstill even in the most explosive encounters.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was a massive hit for Rockstar Games when it was released in 2018 but in the years since launch, the developer hasn't supported it to the same extent as its monolithic open-world game Grand Theft Auto V. The game's community is still devoted to the online mode that allows users to invest themselves in the Wild West but the studio has stopped releasing major content updates for the game. Whether or not a third game is on the cards remains unknown as Rockstar shifts its focus onto GTA VI which currently doesn't have a release date.
